The Barcelona superstar is tipped to win the prestigious individual award for a record sixth time, but he faces a fight to land the prize with Virgil van Dijk also in contention.

But it appears Messi will scoop the 2019 Ballon d'Or according to a leaked document posted online.

In the image uploaded on Twitter, Messi tops the voting with an impressive 446 points ahead of second place Van Dijk who has 382 points.

Van Dijk's Liverpool teammates Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are third and fifth, respectively, with Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo in fourth.

"Well, I think it doesn't matter as you said already, we'll see," the Dutch defender said to Gary Lineker after scoring two goals at Anfield.

"I'm proud of what I achieved last year with Liverpool. I'm gonna be there for a reason.

"What can I say? We'll see. There's no loser there, there's only a winner. I'm already very proud."

The 2019 Ballon d'Or ceremony takes place on Monday in Paris, France.
