Anthony Gordon hands Barcelona unexpected boost worth millions after just five games for the club

Barcelona have already received huge value from signing Anthony Gordon just five matches into his career at the Nou Camp.

When it was announced in May that football royalty Barcelona had agreed a £69.3million deal with Newcastle United for Gordon, more than a few eyebrows were raised.

But the Englishman has quickly silenced any doubters by getting off to a stellar start with his new club, and this has been reflected in the impressive rise in his transfer value since the move.

Ahead of Gordon's move, it was widely believed that Barcelona would instead sign Marcus Rashford as their new left winger, following the Manchester United star's relatively successful loan spell at the Nou Camp last season.

Rashford's loan deal included a clause that would have allowed Barcelona to make the move permanent €30 million (£35m), but they instead paid nearly double to sign his England teammate, Gordon.

Despite some initial scepticism from fans, it seems that this decision has immediately paid off, with Gordon providing five assists in his first four La Liga appearances ahead of making his Champions League debut for the club as a second-half substitute in a 5-1 win over Feyenoord.

Gordon's fiery start with Barcelona has not only ingratiated him with fans but also increased his value by as much as £8m in only a matter of months.

According to CIES Football Observatory's latest valuation of the England international, the 25-year-old is now estimated to be worth around €90million (£77.3m).

Of course, if Gordon continues to perform as he has been in his first weeks with Barcelona, it stands to reason that this value will only continue to rise over the course of the 2026/27 season and beyond.

And after Barcelona tied him down to a five-year contract, the Spanish giants have plenty of time to extract the maximum value out of Gordon in the coming years.

Although it's safe to say that Barcelona boss Flick has been impressed with Gordon's start this season, it doesn't mean that he's been completely flawless in his opening games for the club.

During the crucial win over Feyenoord in the Champions League, the winger had plenty of opportunities to score his first goal for his new club, but ultimately failed to contribute to either of the two goals scored since he was introduced.

"I think as a striker, from his side, you want to score goals," Flick said post-match.

"He has had some chances and he missed them. But he has made the final pass to prepare the goals and this is also very important."

But, with Barcelona currently sitting top of La Liga, two points ahead of second-placed Alaves, and three points above historic rivals Real Madrid in third, it's likely Flick won't be too harsh on Gordon for not putting away his chances just yet.
