Anthony Gordon 'negative' spotted despite record-equalling Barcelona performance in Valencia win

Anthony Gordon continued his excellent start in a Barcelona shirt by providing another assist during their thrashing of Valencia.

Barca secured a 5-0 victory at the Mestalla Stadium thanks to goals from Fermin Lopez, Lamine Yamal (2), Pedri, and Raphinha, to remain three points clear of Real Madrid at the top of LaLiga.

Gordon provided the assist for Lopez's 22nd-minute goal and, in doing so, became only the third LaLiga player in the 21st century to conjure four assists in his first four league matches after Cesc Fabregas and Luis Suarez.

Anthony Gordon's finishing by Barcelona fans criticised against Valencia

Having joined for £69.3million from Newcastle United in the summer, Gordon has already endeared himself to Barcelona with exceptional performances.

Cutting in from the left flank, the England international has tormented defences with his searing pace and provided Hansi Flick's side with quality alongside Yamal and Raphinha in a devastating front three.

Gordon has also become a hero off the pitch by showing a keen interest in learning the native Catalan language, even if he has found it "difficult" to adapt to a completely new dialect.

The 25-year-old arguably couldn't have asked for a better start to life at Barcelona, but as his wait to open his goal-scoring account goes on, supporters have criticised his finishing.

The left winger was wasteful in the 5-0 win against Valencia and missed multiple big chances to find the net, with one fan writing on X: "Anthony Gordon is a really good player, but the only negative thing I can say is that he has to improve his overall one-on-one finishing. He cannot be doing this in the UCL"

"Anthony Gordon has missed so many chances," another fan pointed out.

A third commented: "Anthony Gordon, can you learn to lift your shots more off the ground. You are getting your movement right but your finishing is getting suspicious."

A fourth stated: "He has a lazy shooting method; idk what that is, but once he fixes his shooting, it's game over."

Anthony Gordon will be eyeing Lionel Messi's LaLiga record

Newcastle fans will be familiar with Gordon's inability to take chances, as he often spurned big opportunities during his three-and-a-half years at St James' Park.

But the Englishman continues to get into positions to score, and it feels only a matter of time before he opens his account for the club.

Barca begin their Champions League campaign at home to Feyenoord on Wednesday, and Gordon will want to continue his excellent record in the competition, scoring 10 goals in 12 appearances last term.

Following that, Blaugrana travel to Levante on Sunday (September 13), and that will be another chance for Flick's No. 17 to add to his assist collection.

In fact, there is every chance that he could break Lionel Messi's assist record of 20 in the competition (2019/20 season) if he continues this lightning start.
