Anthony Gordon reveals what Premier League players can get away with that LaLiga doesn't allow

Anthony Gordon has spoken about the major differences between the Premier League and LaLiga after moving to Barcelona this summer.

After three-and-a-half years at Newcastle United, Gordon secured his dream transfer to Barcelona at the start of the window for a £69.3 million fee.

The 25-year-old was captured by Hansi Flick as his preferred left-wing option, and he's already made an immediate impact with the Catalan giants.

Gordon became the first player in the 21st century to assist twice on his LaLiga debut during the 5-0 win over Elche last month and caught the eye once more on Monday night.

Making his second league start for the club, the England international provided his third assist in the famous red and blue in their 5-2 victory against Rayo Vallecano.

Cutting in from the left wing and onto his right foot, the former Newcastle man played a superb reverse pass into the path of Raphinha, who slotted his chance away for his second of the game.

It was a sublime assist from Gordon that left even Rodri stunned, holding his hands over his head during his second appearance for Barca after returning from an extended World Cup break.

As many predicted, Gordon has taken to LaLiga like a duck to water, revelling in the positional freedom and amount of space afforded in the final third.

LaLiga is well known for being less physical than the Premier League, and when discussing the difference between the two, the Englishman pointed out that the chaotic nature of England's top-flight contrasts sharply with Spain's technical vigour.

"I’m not going to deny that the Premier League is incredibly intense," he said, as quoted by SPORT. "The rhythm is relentless, there are physical battles everywhere, long ball kicks, corner kicks and a lot of contact. That’s why many English players believe it is the best league in the world. They’re used to that kind of chaos.

"I loved playing in the Premier League, and it played a huge role in my development. But Spanish football demands a different level of tactical and technical intelligence," Gordon continued, while suggesting that playing in LaLiga requires a sharper focus.

"In England, sometimes intensity can cover up mistakes. You can miscontrol the ball and still recover by winning the next physical battle.

"Here, a bad first touch or a lack of concentration on your positioning can punish you immediately. The spaces are smaller, the decisions have to be faster and everything must be cleaner."

Gordon played 71 minutes against Rayo, forming a devastating forward quartet with Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Dani Olmo.

The fleet-footed winger has unsurprisingly already made a huge impression on Flick, too, with the German explaining how "awesome" it is to have him after he provided two assists against Elche on his debut.

"He has a lot of speed; he's very clear with the ball. Today he gave two assists; for us it's awesome to have him," Flick said.

"We have a lot of speed up front with him, Karim, Rapha."

Barca return to action on Sunday (September 6) against Valencia, who have drawn one and lost two of their opening three matches.
