Spanish media reach Anthony Gordon verdict after his Barcelona debut

Anthony Gordon has made an immediate impression with the Spanish media after making his debut for Barcelona in their La Liga opener against Elche.

The 25-year-old winger, who joined Barca from Newcastle this summer in a deal worth £69.3 million (€80m) inclusive of add-ons, was named on the bench for Sunday's game at the Estadio Martinez Valero.

He would go on to register two assists as a second-half substitute as goals from Raphinha (2), Karim Adeyemi and Fermin Lopez (2) sealed an emphatic 5-0 win.

It was an evening to remember for Gordon, who set up Raphinha to make it 3-0 before delivering a perfectly weighted pass to Fermin Lopez, who found the back of the net just four minutes later to make it four.

So, how did the Spanish media react to Gordon's debut? In their full-time report, AS said he "dazzled" against Elche, adding that he "blew the game open" with his "blistering pace" and "outstanding decision-making."

Mundo Deportivo, meanwhile, say the former Newcastle man was "unstoppable" when attacking the space and "showed his directness" from his first involvement in the match.

In addition to those reports, Marca claim after Gordon and co's so-called "attacking masterclass", Barcelona have opened the season by sending a clear message that they are ready to defend their La Liga title.

Rashford, who spent last season on loan at Barcelona, was heavily tipped to join the Spanish champions this summer following a productive spell at the Camp Nou, where he scored 14 goals in all competitions.

However, the Catalan side eventually decided to sign England teammate Gordon, with the 25-year-old signing a five-year deal worth around £300,000 per week.

Back in June, Rashford joined up with his England teammates ahead of their World Cup campaign and here, he could be seen speaking to Gordon, who soon revealed what the Manchester United forward said.

"He was just telling me how good the lads are there, the team spirit that they have, which I heard already from the people in Barca," he told talkSPORT.

“So I'm really looking forward to joining up with them. He was also telling me about the city, places to live. He's a lovely guy, very caring. So he was just giving me a bit of information.”

Gordon also opened up about his move to Barcelona, a team he described as the biggest in the world.

“It's been a bit of a whirlwind of two weeks, but the best two weeks I've ever had for me and my family," he continued.

“It's been really good because I've told them from a very young age, I said in my interview, that I would get to this point. But they were saying to me, congrats and stuff and this and that.

“I'm not satisfied at all to just play for Barcelona. I want to win everything. This is where my career begins in my mind. So I'm at the stage I always said I was going to be."

“Now I need to get to the next level again," added Gordon, who certainly made a huge impression on his Barcelona debut on Sunday night.
