Anthony Gordon finally gets brutal verdict from Spanish media as Hansi Flick responds

Anthony Gordon has finally been on the receiving end of a brutally honest verdict after a strong start to life at Barcelona.

Gordon, a £69 million signing from Newcastle, has been a huge hit in Catalonia - registering four assists in a perfect start to the season for the Blaugrana.

The fans have already taken to the England international, with players admitting that their love for him so soon into his spell is "not normal".

Barcelona sporting director Deco has expressed his delight at what Gordon has brought to the table after they picked him over Marcus Rashford.

But the sixth game Gordon played in the red and blue of Barcelona brought a slightly different slant on things.

Barca beat Levante 4-2 away from home, with Lamine Yamal scoring twice.

Gordon started down the left and was substituted in the 67th minute, with fellow new signing Karim Adeyemi scoring his second goal in a week.

The German bagged against Feyenoord and El Nacional believe Adeyemi could well take Gordon's place into the team after he struggled in his latest outing.

They said that while his display "wasn't bad", it was "far too subdued for what is expected of him" - while Adeyemi proved more effective.

The publication wrote: "Gordon struggled particularly with the lack of space. Levante defended very deep, even when trailing and the Englishman couldn't find enough room to exploit his pace. Even so, he worked hard off the ball, helped with the pressing and showed commitment, although he lacked a spark in the final third.

"The big difference was Adeyemi. The German once again demonstrated that he has more resources when the opponent sits back and forces him to play in tight spaces.

"Furthermore, he found the net again with a great goal, strengthening a candidacy that until now seemed secondary. After Levante, Gordon has been warned and Adeyemi is gaining ground. For the next big match, the German already has enough arguments to start ahead."

Following up, SPORT gave him a 5/10 for his display, noting that "Gordon struggled to find space" against Levante's low block and that he "lacked a spark".

He was praised for being "very supportive" to the team. Gordon was one of three players to be marked a five, while Adeyemi joined Raphinha, Rodri, Yamal and others in getting an eight.

Hansi Flick responds after Anthony Gordon fails to score for Barcelona

Gordon has created 10 chances in La Liga so far but didn't have a shot on goal in Sunday's win and is still searching for his first goal for Barcelona.

But there is no pressure from manager Hansi Flick, who believes it's been a smooth period of adapting for Gordon.

The German has been extremely happy with Gordon's contributions in all aspects.

"I think Anthony gives us a lot, especially when he receives the ball," he said.

"He is always able to control it and then pass it to one of our players, and therefore keep possession.

"Of course, as an attacker, when you have chances, you want to score. I hope he scores very soon, because that will also help him integrate completely. But I am happy with him, and I really appreciate what he gives us."

Barcelona return to action on Wednesday when they host Racing Santander at the Nou Camp.
