Roberto De Zerbi claims he'd be 'the best coach in Italy' after Tottenham's 0-0 draw against Everton

Roberto De Zerbi claimed in his latest press conference that he would be regarded as "the best coach in Italy" if his side kept clean sheets in back-to-back games.

Tottenham's winless start to the Premier League season continued with a history-making 0-0 draw against Everton as De Zerbi's men failed to find the back of the net for a fourth straight match.

As a result of their latest hiccup, Tottenham have failed to score in any of their opening four league fixtures of a campaign for the very first time in the club's history.

After an opening day defeat against Brentford, they suffered at the hands of Newcastle United before recording goalless draws against Nottingham Forest and Everton.

Despite their poor start, De Zerbi took some positives from Saturday's result. Speaking in his post-match press conference, the Italian appeared particularly pleased with his side's defensive efforts.

"For example, in Italy, I should be the best coach, no? Two games, two clean sheets," he said.

"What would La Gazzetta dello Sport write? Two clean sheets. What are you going to write tomorrow - a clean sheet or no goals? Tell me what you actually want to write," he added.

As well as speaking about clean sheets, De Zerbi touched on his post-match chat with Mathys Tel after the pair were seen having a heated discussion on the pitch.

Tel was introduced as a second-half substitute but struggled to make an impact in forward areas.

“Yes, I coached him on the pitch,” De Zerbi said in his press conference.

“The body shape of a striker. The striker can play with the shoulder on the goal. If we are playing with (James) Maddison, (Mohammed) Kudus and Savio, he has to play as a striker, and the striker has to look at the goal, no?

“Or on the cross of Robertson. He has to stay inside because he started (his career) as a striker. Now he's playing as a winger, but he started in his career as a striker.”

De Zerbi then reiterated his "love" for Tel as a player and person, adding: "There is not a problem.”
