Grimsby Town brutally trolled Ruben Amorim and Manchester United ahead of their League Two clash with Bristol Rovers on Saturday.
Grimsby were back in action at Blundell Park following their Carabao Cup triumph against Manchester United on Wednesday.
Of course, in midweek, the League Two outfit first went two-nil up before late strikes from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire momentarily spared United’s blushes to take the match to penalties.
Then, against all odds, the Lincolnshire side won 12-11 on penalties to set up a third-round clash against Sheffield Wednesday.

As for United, this was the most recent low in a series of poor results since Amorim took charge in the winter of 2024.
The pressure continues to mount on the Portuguese, but he remained in charge for United’s Premier League match against Burnley at Old Trafford on Saturday despite tentative links with a move to Benfica.

On Friday, Amorim even went as far as to say, “sometimes I hate my players”, during a press conference.

He added: “Sometimes I want to quit, sometimes I want to be here for 20 years, sometimes I love to be with my players, sometimes I don’t want to be with them. I need to improve on that, it’s going to be hard but now I’m focused on the next game.”
So, based on Amorim’s comments, it’s fair to say he’s not enjoying his time at Old Trafford at the moment, but this didn’t stop Grimsby aiming a dig at him.
On Saturday, Grimsby posted a video on their social media platforms – see below - which appeared to show Mariners TV reporter Scott Woodthorpe mocking Amorim after the United boss was spotted studying a tactics board during his side’s defeat.
Some have compared the image to Steve McClaren’s infamous “wally with the brolly” moment during his time as England manager.

The video received a mixed reaction on social media.
One fan said: “Some clubs are classy and respectful to fellow clubs and their managers. Then there is Grimsby Town.”
Another added: “Clowns… your only legacy is beating Man United.”
Former United full-back Phil Neville commented: “Not classy.”

Another supporter explained: “I’ve been good mates with @ScottWoodthorpe for many years and he’s been a wonderful human being, but this is hands down the best thing he’s ever done. Never been prouder. Exceptional banter.”
