Liverpool's Bradley Barcola already sets Premier League record after 30 minutes vs Ipswich

Liverpool star Bradley Barcola showed exactly what he is about by setting a new Premier League record in his first appearance.

After consecutive 2-2 draws, Andoni Iraola's side finally picked up their first win of the season away at Ipswich on Friday night.

Alexander Isak bagged a quickfire brace early on at Portman Road, moving Liverpool up to fifth in the table ahead of the remaining weekend fixtures.

The much-needed victory has filled Liverpool fans with confidence after a slow start and a somewhat underwhelming transfer window.

But there is huge optimism following the debut of new man Bradley Barcola, who joined for a fee which could rise to £123 million.

The Frenchman, a two-time Champions League winner with Paris Saint-Germain, came off the bench to replace fellow new addition Victor Munoz - who opened his account against Nottingham Forest last week.

Barcola only played 31 minutes but made a huge impression on Liverpool supporters, who loved the energy and pace he brought to the table.

Barcola looked devastating on the counter attack when he darted up the pitch and set up Cody Gakpo, who fired an effort over the bar.

The Premier League has a new speed demon and it's emerged that Barcola has set the fastest top speed with 35.9km/h in the English top flight this season.

Barcola has gone straight to the top, moving ahead of the likes of Pedro Neto, Kristoffer Ajer and Rayan when it comes to the top speed.

The 24-year-old's move to Liverpool was finally announced on 31 August after a long pursuit following Barcola telling PSG he wished to move on.

He did not have a pre-season to build up his fitness for the new campaign and has only recently been involved in training with his new teammates.

But Iraola was enthused by what he saw from Barcola in his first appearance in a red shirt.

I think Bradley hadn’t played a single minute since the World Cup so we needed to be careful. I think he is training well, in a good place, and I think that he has helped us. Probably, we haven’t found him in a couple of situations where I think he was going against the ‘keeper, but we haven’t really seen his movements.

“And also he has had a very good counter, very good passing side that I think Cody finished, but we didn’t score. But he was always a threat, you know?

“When he carries the ball, I think you can feel this threat and I’m happy because I think 30 minutes is going to be good for his fitness, for his build-up, and we will continue because now we play a lot of games, so he will have a chance to play more.”

It was always the plan for Barcola to have some minutes in the second half but he will be hoping to get a start in the Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid at Anfield on Wednesday.

However, Iraola did stress that Liverpool fans would have to be patient with their new marquee edition.

He added: "I think it’s normal, he hasn’t played any pre-season minutes. I think he’s still in a good place. I don’t think he will need something like a very special build-up, but we have to be aware that he hasn’t been playing in a while and the demands of the games are very different from training, so we have got to consider this.”
