Liverpool fans have reached Bradley Barcola verdict after 31-minute debut

Liverpool fans have already reached their verdict on new signing Bradley Barcola after his debut in the 2-0 win over Ipswich Town.

Barcola came off the bench for Liverpool in the 64th minute, replacing Victor Munoz, to make his first appearance for the club since his £123 million arrival from Paris Saint-Germain.

His transfer fee was marginally lower than the amount Liverpool splashed out to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle last summer.

The £125 million-rated Swede netted a brace inside nine minutes at Portman Road to put Andoni Iraola's side in command.

That meant Barcola's job when he came on was to help Liverpool add to or hold their advantage, rather than having to chase the game.

In one of his first moments in a Liverpool shirt, Barcola received the ball and took it past two Ipswich players, prompting a series of ole's from the Reds away end at Portman Road.

He showed some promising moments of link-up play with his new team-mates.

Like at PSG, Barcola stretched the Ipswich defence by positioning himself on the touchline before attempting to run inside or beat his defender wide.

Minutes later, he gave Liverpool fans a first showing of his blistering pace to drive, unmarked, through the centre of the pitch before squaring the ball to Cody Gakpo, who mistimed his shot and hit it over the crossbar.

With Ipswich pushing for a way back into the match, he also needed to track back and support his defence as Liverpool looked to hold on to their advantage.

And Barcola managed to make a very quick impression on Liverpool fans.

"Barcola looks the business," one wrote on X (Twitter).

"I've seen enough. Barcola is going to be our greatest player ever," another declared.

"Barcola is gonna be so so good for us man," a third said.

While a fourth stated: "The combination of Wirtz, Szoboszlai and Barcola is gonna cause a lot of problems."

Liverpool fans at Portman Road debuted their new chant for Barcola as soon as he was brought on, to the tune of the TV show 'Heartbeat'.

"I just want to play, that's all I'm waiting for," Barcola told Liverpool's official website in his first interview as a Reds player. "It will be incredible.

"When I heard that Liverpool were interested in me, I thought back to the atmosphere in the stadium and once again I was able to feel it. It's nothing but a joy to play for a club like that.

"I was able to talk to him [Iraola] several times and he told me that my quality brought a real plus to this team and that he was counting on me, that he had confidence in me.

"That's what made me want to join this team, because when you have the confidence of a coach you can only be good on the pitch. So it's a very good thing to play with such a good coach.

"I hope to achieve very big things. First of all winning the Premier League - it's one of my biggest dreams in my life. So yeah, it is to do that and to stay in this team in the long term - that's why I signed a long contract - and I hope I can do it."
