Rasmus Holjund has aimed a brutal dig at Ruben Amorim, claiming everyone at Manchester United 'suffered' during his time at the club.

Man United signed Hojlund for a whopping £72million from Atalanta in August 2023, and unfortunately, the Danish international didn't live up to the weight of expectation at Old Trafford.

Hojlund scored just 26 goals in 95 appearances for the Red Devils and spent the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Napoli, scoring 15 goals in all competitions before they signed him permanently for £38million this summer.

Rasmus Hojlund explains how things could have been 'different' at Man United

In his debut campaign at the club, the 23-year-old showed glimpses of his talent, striking 16 times in all competitions, including five goals in six Champions League appearances.

The 35-cap Denmark international struggled to replicate that form in the following 2024/25 campaign, and his struggles became even greater when Ruben Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag in November 2024.

Hojlund scored just eight goals in 40 appearances under Amorim, who was eventually sacked by the club in January 2026 after recording the worst win rate of any Man United manager in Premier League history.

In a bombshell interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, the Napoli hitman has since hit out at his former Portuguese boss, suggesting that everyone at the club 'suffered' during his time in charge.

“I don’t think anything specific went wrong. I arrived at a club with a manager. It was a difficult year, with a lot of injuries, but we won the FA Cup, and I was the top scorer," Hojlund said when looking back on his debut season.

“Then we went through a difficult period and Amorim arrived, an excellent coach but with a different style of play. The team had to adapt, and it was complicated. We all suffered."

Hojlund then went on to explain how things could have played out differently if they had won the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur, which they painfully lost 1-0 to Brennan Johnson's winner.

“My first year was a success; the second was not," he continued. "But I played in the Europa League final. If we had won, it would have been a different story. That’s football. Sometimes it goes well, sometimes it goes badly, but I’m very happy to have played for the club I dreamed of as a child.”

What Ruben Amorim said about letting Rasmus Hojlund leave

Amorim was largely responsible for Hojlund initially joining Napoli on loan last summer, and the 41-year-old explained the reason why he sanctioned his exit.

Speaking in November 2025, the former United boss said: "We need two strikers, and sometimes I prefer players who can cover multiple positions. It’s not always easy to satisfy everyone. Imagine telling Rasmus he’ll only play when Ben [Sesko] is absent; that’s impossible to manage in a dressing room.

"That’s why developing young players from the academy is so important. An injury can become an opportunity for them, and having players who can operate in different positions helps us manage the team more effectively.”

Hojlund's race was arguably run at Old Trafford when INEOS signed Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford and Matheus Cunha from Wolves last summer, with all three players since playing in a central role at various points.
