Rasmus Hojlund has revealed what Manchester United told him ahead of his loan move to Napoli.

Back in the summer, it became clear that Hojlund would have to leave Old Trafford for regular minutes.

The Red Devils brought in the likes of Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo to strengthen their attacking options, putting Hojlund further down Ruben Amorim's pecking order.

As a result, the Danish international joined Serie A champions Napoli on loan, reuniting with former United teammate Scott McTominay.

Since moving to Naples, Hojlund has impressed, having registered seven goals and three assists in 19 matches across all competitions.

Speaking recently, Hojlund revealed what United told him before he secured a move to Italy.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Hojlund said: "United made it quite clear for me that I wasn’t part of the plans for this year coming into the season, and with no European football and that sort of things.

"I’m young, I have to play football and for that reason, I think this was also a good opportunity for me."

He continued: "Napoli saw an opportunity to go and get me and as soon as I heard the interest from them, I made it quite obvious for my camp and for the people around that I only wanted to to go there."

Hojlund went on to reveal the conversation he had with Napoli boss Antonio Conte and how it managed to convince him it was the right move for his career.

The 22-year-old added: "It was a quite short conversation. But a very, very good one. His words assault you. They crash through the doors of your mind, often quite violently, and settle deep within you.

"I think we were both quite clear that it was a good step for me. I think we [are] suited, it was a good match. I think he’s an incredible coach. I’ve only seen him do good things almost everywhere he’s been so obviously that was a big part of it. When he calls you, you just have to say yes."
