Harry Maguire aimed a direct dig at former manager Ruben Amorim following Manchester United's 2-1 win over Brentford at Old Trafford.

Goals from Casemiro and Benjamin Sesko in the first half sealed back-to-back wins for United and moved them closer to Champions League qualification.

They are now 11 points ahead of sixth-placed Brighton with just four games to play, with five Premier League clubs set to qualify for next season's Champions League through league finishing position.

The only blot on the copybook for Michael Carrick's side was Mathias Jensen's 87th-minute strike for Brentford, which ultimately proved to be a consolation goal.

The Bees had the better of the second half but couldn't manage to find an equaliser in the closing moments.

But Maguire says that the fact United held on shows a key difference between current interim boss Carrick and previous manager Amorim, who was sacked in January.

"We had two tough fixtures when Michael first came in," Maguire told Sky Sports. "I think everyone was probably looking at them thinking, 'Oh no', with Arsenal and Man City, and we managed to get the six points.

"Everyone's believed in it, and we've gathered together. We've got the confidence. We know that we can score goals from anywhere.

"The results speak for themselves. Since the manager has come in, and the formation has changed, we just seemed to pick up results.

"I think that the games previous, when Ruben was here, the games were fifty-fifty. But we always ended up on the back of a defeat."

"Now it seems like it's the other way around, where we're a lot better in both boxes," he continued.

"We defend our box a lot better, and we're managing to be clinical in the other box."
