Andreas Christensen Fires In Absolute Rocket As Denmark Qualify For Euro 2020 Last 16

Andreas Christensen blasted in an absolute screamer as Denmark sensationally beat Russia 4-1 to qualify for the last 16 of Euro 2020.

At exactly the same time as the Danes were going goal-crazy in Copenhagen, Belgium were putting two past Finland, meaning Denmark finished second in the group despite losing their first two games. The crowd went absolutely wild.

Christensen's strike - which gave the Dane's a crucial 3-1 lead in the second half, just after an Artem Dzyuba penalty had brought Russia game back into the game - was a belter.

After some ping-pong inside the Russian box, the ball came speeding out of the area: only to meet Chelsea defender Christensen's boot travelling even faster to send it back where it came from with interest.

The sheer speed of the rising shot left Russia's defence absolutely helpless as it flew through the mass of bodies and into the net.

The moment of victory was made all the more emotional by the fact that Denmark lost their midfield talisman Christian Eriksen in horrific circumstances when he collapsed on the pitch after suffering a cardiac arrest in their opening match. Now Denmark are in the knockout stages despite all the trauma and setbacks their players have faced.

Mikkel Damsgaard put Denmark 1-0 up in the first half before Yussuf Poulsen capitalised on awful Russian defending to make it 2-0. Dzyuba's penalty made it tight, but Christensen's wallop and a final goal from Joakim Maehle gave the Danes a convincing and cathartic victory.

Russia are out of Euro 2020, as they finished bottom of Group B, while Finland are third on three points but a -2 goal difference. Belgium topped the group with three wins from three after their 2-0 win against the Finns.

But for all Belgium's brilliance, it will be the progress of Denmark that makes the neutrals happy in a result that also qualified England, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Sweden for the last 16.
