Fans Call For 'Be A Referee' Mode On FIFA 22

Forget being a player or manager, controlling the referee is what it's all about.

Fans are calling for a new mode controlling the referee to be introduced in FIFA 22.

The discussion over 'Be a Referee' being a thing in the next game in the popular FIFA franchise came about after Twitter user @Blessed_Bobby made the suggestion.

The tweet, which contained a mocked-up screenshot of what the mode would look like visually, blew up and garnered nearly 5,000 likes.

He also tagged EA Sports and implored them to make it happen.

And although there were some people who weren't in favour of playing as the ref, a number of folks are well onboard with the idea.

Plenty had their own thoughts on how to make the mode fun, interactive and story-driven:

Presently, FIFA 21 has Career Mode and VOLTA - the latter of which does have a narrative attached to it in a similar way to 'The Journey' mode that proved to be very popular.

But instead of bidding to make Alex Hunter a world-beater, imagine trying to be the next Mike Dean?

Starting from the very bottom as an official in the lower leagues before climbing the ranks to the Champions League, you'd be judged on the decisions you made and that would impact the story.

It could be an intriguing and fresh addition to the game. And sending a player off would be oddly satisfying.

In other wanted changes for the next FIFA game ,fans are clamouring for Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher to be commentators.

Although we hear the punditry pair every week on Sky Sports, there's a petition asking EA to have them call the action instead of Derek Rae and Lee Dixon.
