Scott McTominay has showed just what an incredible athlete he is after completed the 5k challenge in just 16 minutes.

The Scotland international ran 5.03k in 16 minutes, 1 second - and would have had a time of 15:45 if he had stuck to the set distance every man and his dog have been taking part in.

Incredibly, he got better the further he ran - completing his final two kilometres in three minutes respectively after achieving his first in three minutes, 32 seconds.

To further demonstrate just how strong a runner McTominay is over 5k, he would have made the top 30 in the UK had he done the challenge over a 400m track.

What's more, the United youth product is only just over three minutes off the current world record for 5k of 12:37 - held by Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia.

Earlier this week, McTominay's United teammate Dan James put his running ability over big time and tipped him he to come out on top in the min-competition they are having.

"A lot of the boys are going outside, doing runs and sending them in. It's a competition to get the best 5k time," he told the Daily Mail.

"It's been good, nice and competitive still.

"Scott is winning at the moment and I don't think anyone is going to top it."

One would have to think that skipper Harry Maguire is being disqualified from the competition given that he's essentially being faking his runs.

The England defender took to Twitter to post a screenshot of his 4.78m 'park run' route he had completed using the Strava app.

At first it seemed all was well and good, with Maguire doing the route in an impressive 17 minutes and 46 seconds.

However, someone on Twitter uncovered that the former Leicester City man had actually faked his run as it actually took place two weeks ago.
