Italian media have already made their minds up on Ruben Amorim after four games at AC Milan

Ruben Amorim has now had four competitive matches in the dugout as AC Milan manager, and he is yet to taste defeat.

AC Milan have won two and drawn as many of their opening Serie A matches, which has left the club sat fifth in the division at the time of writing.

Now, as the club prepares for the start of their Europa League campaign, when they host Benfica this week, the Italian media have made up their minds on Amorim.

Italian media’s opinion on Ruben Amorim’s start to life at AC Milan

AC Milan earned a draw in their latest Serie A fixture, a game in which they feared suffering their first loss of the season after they were 2-0 down at half-time to Lazio.

Yet, they would fight back to earn a point in Rome as they drew 2-2 after Diego Moreira bagged a brace in two minutes, his first hitting the net in the 65^th minute.

Now, the Italian media have made a judgement of Amorim and his tactical approach, a key area they love to judge managers on in the Southern European nation.

Corriere dello Sport has reported that both Amorim’s side and approach are positive, and were impressed by how they could dominate at times against Lazio.

In their report, they said: “In just over ninety minutes Amorim showed us the inspiring principle - which has been publicly expressed several times - of his football, the dominant game, and the opposite version, the dominated one.”

Meanwhile, Corriere della Sera argued that Amorim has to explore further tactically, believing that he should know how he wants to approach the game tactically and who he sees as his strongest squad - pointing at the poor first half against Lazio before the team improved after the interval.

The report said: “In Turin he [Moreira] was deployed on the right, this time on the left, where he had a devastating impact, also because his good foot is left. This is also one of the considerations that Amorim will have to explore further as soon as possible.

“The project is intriguing and complex, but one thing is certain: after four games, it's time to find a clear identity for his Milan, including in its players. So far, too many experiments.

“The great summer revolution could be the start of a journey; quality is not lacking despite an incomplete transfer market, but certainties are needed. Otherwise, the running-in period will inevitably lengthen.”

In Gazzetta dello Sport, they posed the question of whether Amorim is a tactical genius, due to the Portuguese manager on more than one occasion making the perfect substitutions, or if the starting XI selection could be better.

It said: “The question is quite similar to the chicken-and-egg metaphor: there's no clear-cut answer; it can be debated more or less endlessly. However, the topic and the reflection are worthwhile, because, even though we're only at the beginning of the tournament, precious points are at stake.

“And, fundamentally, "reducing" ourselves to giving matches meaning only in the second half, and almost exclusively through substitutions, appears to be a clear limitation in the long run. Because there will be times when the attempt won't pan out. To understand—at least in part—why Amorim sometimes makes questionable choices in his starting lineup.”

Ruben Amorim’s start as AC Milan manager in comparison to his beginnings at Manchester United

The Portuguese manager joined Manchester United in November 2024, before departing the club in January 2026, meaning he only had one full preseason as boss of the Red Devils.

During the summer of 2025, Amorim was backed, and several players were signed so he could attempt to implement his style of play effectively; however, it would not work out, and he would be sacked midway through that campaign.

While Amorim has had an unbeaten start to life across the first four Serie A matches as AC Milan manager, the team is sitting in fifth.

Across his first four matches in charge of Man United last season, he did not make a fantastic start to the campaign, as they lost on the opening day to Arsenal.

This would be followed by a draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage before a victory over newly promoted Burnley.

However, the team would be completely outplayed by their city rivals in their fourth Premier League game of the season, as Pep Guardiola’s side won 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium.
