It is arguably the most shocking exclusion from a World Cup squad in recent years. Joachim Low has opted to leave PFA Young Player of the Year winner Leroy Sane out of his 23-man squad.

Sane, who has enjoyed a prolific season for Manchester City under Pep Guardiola, was a strong favourite to be included in the Germany squad.

But it seems he has been beaten to the post by Bayer Leverkusen winger Julian Brandt.

Shortly after the team was announced, Joachim Low explained the reason behind his controversial decision:

"That was a very close decision between him and Julian Brandt, which was made in favor of Brandt, Draxler Reus and Müller are set. Leroy has a huge talent.

"He will be back again from September. He had not arrived in international matches yet."

The fact that Sane has been left out of Germany's 23-man squad has certainly caused a reaction on social media.

He might have bagged 14 times for the Premier League champions, but he still didn't do enough for a place in Russia. Here's how Twitter reacted to the news:

Let us know your thoughts on Sane's omission from the Germany squad in the comments.

It has certainly caused a huge amount of debate.
