Lamine Yamal and Raphinha have done what no other Barcelona duo have managed for more than 70 years - and the pair could help Hansi Flick's side create more history against Racing Santander on Wednesday night.

Barca head into their clash against 10th-place Santander with a perfect record of five wins from five, scoring a whopping 21 goals - at an average of 4.2 per game - while conceding just four as they continue to set a relentless pace at the top of the LaLiga table.

In fact, a sixth successive league victory on Wednesday would give the Catalan giants their best-ever start to a league campaign, fuelling Flick's team of superstars to create more history.

How Barcelona have become Europe's highest-scoring team

When assessing the biggest teams in Europe, it's hard to find many better attacks than the one at the German's disposal, with a front three of Lamine Yamal, Anthony Gordon and Raphinha capable of destroying any defence on the planet.

Raphinha and Yamal have been in scintillating form, becoming the first Barcelona pair since 1955/56 to each score at least six goals in their opening five LaLiga matches, and they've also combined for an impressive 15 goals during that time.

Two of Flick's attacking superstars have tormented the opposition from the right and centre of the pitch, while Anthony Gordon, a £69.3million signing from Newcastle United this summer, has slotted into the system like a glove on the left flank.

Gordon made history at the start of September by becoming only the third player this century to register four assists in his first four LaLiga matches, and he will have even more records in his sights as the season progresses.

The 25-year-old's addition to an already potent forward line has helped Barca become the deadliest team in Europe's top five leagues, with their 21 goals across five matches placing them ahead of rivals Real Madrid (17).

Flick also deserves immense credit for turning Barcelona into a free-scoring machine by using Raphinha as an unconventional centre-forward when he's normally utilised on the flank. Meanwhile, the additions of Karim Adeyemi and Gabriel Jesus from Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal, respectively, have made the Catalan giants more unpredictable than ever in transition.

Barca paid just £8.6million to sign Jesus from Arsenal in a surprise move, instead of splashing big money on a striker.

That isn't to say they didn't try to land a world-class centre-forward after being thwarted in their attempts to capture Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid.

Alvarez emerged as the club's top target following Robert Lewandowski's exit at the start of summer, and although the Argentine outlined his dream of moving to Barcelona, Atleti CEO Miguel Ángel Gil confirmed the club was unwilling to negotiate with their LaLiga rivals under any circumstances.

Barca were also linked with numerous other centre-forwards across the transfer window, notably Bayern Munich's Harry Kane, Arsenal's Viktor Gyokeres and Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez.

At the time, the club will have felt it was a blow not to sign a top-quality striker - especially following Lewandowski's emotional departure - but the fluidity and potency of Flick's front three prove that may have been a blessing in disguise.
