Max Dowman's instant reaction to Viktor Gyokeres moment vs Ipswich Town speaks volumes

Arsenal fans spotted Max Dowman's reaction to Viktor Gyokeres' misplaced pass during their 4-2 win over Ipswich Town in the Carabao Cup - and it speaks volumes about his confidence levels.

Dowman netted twice for the Gunners as they beat Ipswich to progress to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup - a competition they reached the final of last year.

Gyokeres, meanwhile, played the full 90 minutes but wasn't able to get on the scoresheet. And a moment involving the Swede in the first half at Portman Road went viral.

Deep inside Ipswich's half, Gyokeres received the ball and held it up as he awaited options.

Dowman was positioned further infield for a straightforward pass, though Gyokeres clearly wanted to play the ball down the right flank and waited for Noni Madueke's run.

Gyokeres spotted Madueke's run and played the ball down the line, but it was overhit and went out of play.

Following the misplaced pass, Dowman lifted his head up to the side, seemingly disappointed that Gyokeres hadn't chosen to pass infield instead - in a clear indication of just how much confidence and belief the 16-year-old has to show for the ball, receive it and attempt to make things happen for Arsenal.

The attacking midfielder did exactly that in the first half, as he took the ball around 40 yards out before dribbling beyond Ipswich defender Cedric Kipre, charging towards the penalty area and slotting the ball into the bottom left corner.

His second goal of the night to make it 3-0 was composure personified, as he received the ball on the right side of the penalty area before finishing calmly beyond Ipswich goalkeeper Christian Walton.

'We have to look after him...' - Arteta on Dowman

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta spoke extensively about Dowman in his post-match press conference, and praised the England youth international for his performance.

But he also stressed the need, given Dowman's age, to continue to 'look after' him as he grows as a professional footballer.

"That's something very natural for him," Arteta said of Dowman's first goal. "He can deliver those actions effortlessly, I would say. That's his biggest quality.

"And defensively, his application, his capacity to sustain the actions - which is not easy at 16 years old. He can create moments, but consistently to go through the game, every phase, with the demands that we put in them, to be able to do that is extremely difficult. He's coping better and better.

"If he does what he does on the pitch, it's not easy [to control the hype around him]. I understand. But what we have to do is look after him.

"We really need to make sure every time we throw him in, he's in the right context with the right preparation.

"We're going to make sure that, when we just throw him there, he's ready to handle that at every level. And it's not just that he can run past somebody."
