Alejandro Garnacho sends message to JJ Gabriel with bizarre post on social media

Alejandro Garnacho has reacted to the bombshell news that Man United wonderkid JJ Gabriel is pushing for an exit with a bizarre post on social media.

Heading into the 2026/27 season, there were few youngsters playing for Premier League sides that had as many eyes on them as Manchester United's Gabriel, despite the fact he is yet to make a senior appearance for the club.

It therefore came as a major surprise when it emerged that Gabriel was suddenly pushing to leave United as soon as possible, prompting a response from Garnacho, a player once viewed similarly to Gabriel at United.

Alejandro Garnacho shares JJ Gabriel video ahead of Man United exit

When he arrived at United in 2020 from Atletico Madrid at just 16 years old, expectations for Garnacho to develop into a key player at the club were high.

Just two years later, having shone in United’s 2022 FA Youth Cup triumph with a brace in the final, the Argentine was handed his senior debut against Chelsea that April.

Overall, Garnacho made 144 appearances with 26 goals and 22 assists across all competitions during his career at United.

But unfortunately for both the player and club, the end of their time together will forever be what defines Garnacho's spell at United, with the youngster leaving having fallen out of favour with both club officials and fans.

After featuring only as a substitute in the 2025 Europa League final defeat, having publicly fallen out with then manager Ruben Amorim, Garnacho joined Chelsea in August 2025 for a reported £40million plus a 10% sell-on clause.

Despite showing confidence in Garnacho with a contract keeping him at Stamford Bridge until 2032, the move hasn't exactly worked out for Chelsea, who ultimately have decided to loan the forward to Aston Villa for the season, with a conditional obligation to buy reportedly worth around the £40m spent to buy him.

Now it appears that Gabriel could be going down a similar road, taking a major gamble on himself by publicly forcing his way out of United just like Garnacho did.

And it appears Garnacho is acutely aware of these comparisons, as he shared a viral video on TikTok sharing reports about Gabriel's recent actions before asking 'where have we seen this before?' followed by videos showing Garnacho's best moments at United and a clip of him playing against his former club during his later move to Chelsea.

Although it's hard to know exactly what Garnacho means with his decision to repost the video, many United fans have taken it as a warning to Gabriel that the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

Reacting to the video, one fan on X wrote: Am I the only one who thinks this Garnacho post isn't a dig, but rather an admission he made a mistake?"

While another agreed: "I may be totally off here, but I interpret this as a warning from Garnacho to JJ. Don’t end up like me. I’m absolutely sure that for one thing Garnacho has a lot of regret."

With one adding: "You have to feel for him. As he gets older he’s definitely going to deeply regret the opportunity he wasted it’s unfortunate his career isn’t over though still time"

Where will JJ Gabriel go to?

Despite Garnacho's message, it still appears more likely than not that Gabriel will leave United sometime in the near future, with a number of giant clubs linked.

Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are all said to be keen to sign the Manchester United youngster, such is the talent he's displayed at just 15 years old.

Of course, a move within the Premier League also remains possible, but he will have to wait he turns 16 in October and join another Premier League side, with Chelsea not an option as they are banned from signing academy players until December.

But, because his mother is Greek Cypriot, a rule loophole allows European clubs to sign Gabriel before his 16th birthday, if he has dual nationality, which appears to make a move abroad more likely.
