Liverpool re-sign midfielder four years after letting him leave as he reunites with brother

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Hungarian midfielder Patrik Farkas, four years after he first left the club to join Blackburn Rovers.

The 19-year-old has been registered with the Merseyside club at U21 level after impressing during an extensive trial period with the youth team over the summer.

Farkas was named on the bench as the U21s lost 1-0 away to West Ham on Monday night, marking his first competitive squad involvement since returning to Anfield earlier this month.

Liverpool sign Patrik Farkas after four years away

Liverpool have completed a deal to bring Farkas back to the club, and he will be hoping things go better than during his previous spell.

Farkas initially joined Liverpool from Hungarian club Kecskeméti TE in 2021, but spent just one season with the club before leaving to join Blackburn.

The teenage midfielder spent time on loan with local sides City of Liverpool FC and Prescot Cables before leaving Blackburn when his contract expired at the end of last season.

He was offered a trial by his former club in the summer, with his younger brother Erik currently part of the U18 side, and jumped at the chance to return to Liverpool.

Although he didn't get on the pitch on Monday night, it is understood the versatile midfielder will be given opportunities under manager Rob Page this season.

It remains unlikely that Farkas will break into the first-team squad at Anfield, but his strong work ethic and versatility already make him a valuable member of the U21 squad.

Patrik Farkas reacts to 'dream' Liverpool transfer return

Farkas was officially unveiled as a new Liverpool signing on Tuesday, where he will team up with his brother Erik in the club's youth ranks.

Speaking after signing his contract, he said: "It's a dream come true to sign here. I'm really happy and just excited to get started. I'm enjoying being back at Liverpool. There are some new faces, but it's good to meet everyone and also see lots of old friends as well.

"I'm a technical player, a box-to-box player who can play in multiple positions and try to make things happen. The coaches have just asked me to excite them, to get playing, be confident and show them what I can do. From there, anything can happen. Work hard and take the next step from there."

When asked about the possibility of playing alongside his brother, he added: "We've always played together, from when I was four years old. We do push each other. That's the aim, to push each other and that's how we get better."
