A "genius" Wolves fan has saved himself a tidy sum after making his own blue and white away jersey for the upcoming 2020/21 season.

Standing out with its unique and urban design, the "edgy" new away shirt hasn't exactly gone down well with some supporters and Alan Cox, from Sedgley in the West Midlands, decided to take drastic action following its release.

The 48-year-old found inspiration from his wife's jazzy outfit, saving himself £55 in the meantime.

"When I arrived home from work, my wife opened the door and I burst out laughing." Alan told SPORTbible. "She was wearing what I thought was the new Wolves kit at first but obviously it was just one of her tops.

"After a few drinks, I had a light bulb idea; I went upstairs, got my white Wolves shirt and stuck her top over it. Bob's your uncle!"

Alan posed for a cheeky picture and posted it to his Facebook, where it received thousands of likes and shares.

"Well, I just took the photo and sent it to my mates for a laugh on Facebook, and then my phone started to go mad on the notifications.

"I couldn't believe the response it was getting from not just my mates but thousands of people. God knows how many shares and comments it has now, but my mate sent me a screenshot this morning with almost 45,000 likes.

"I can't believe it really. It was just a daft idea!"

After the picture went viral, Alan, who was a Wolves season ticket holder before the current Premier league era, claims he will "definitely" wear it to their next game, especially if it's an away day.

So what does he think of the real away shirt?

"Apart from it looking like the opening credits of the Simpsons, it looks like they had forgotten to finish it off at the top," he said.

"It actually looks like a cross between the Germany 1990 strip and Coventry City's 1992 jersey."

In terms of the real shirt, the vibrant graphics on its sides and collar stand out, while benefiting from a heat-transfer design and lightweight fabric to support "lightning-fast reactions" and quick drying.

The shirt was revealed by Grammy award-nominated producer and recording artist S-X at the end of August.

Which away shirt do you prefer? Alan Cox's or the official Wolves jersey?
