Marcus Rashford makes feelings clear on whether to stay at Man United beyond the summer - report

Marcus Rashford's Manchester United future has dominated the headlines this summer – and an update has emerged on how he feels about staying at Old Trafford beyond the summer.

Rashford was frozen out by Ruben Amorim at Man United at the end of 2024 due to his standards in training and a failure to adapt to tactical demands.

The 28-year-old ended up joining Aston Villa on loan in February 2025, impressing under Unai Emery before reaching even higher levels after spending the entirety of the 2025/26 campaign at Barcelona.

The England international helped inspired Hansi Flick's side to the LaLiga title with 28 goal involvements in all competitions, while scoring five and assisting four in the Champions League.

An incredible campaign at the Spanish giants pointed towards him joining permanently, but Barca surprisingly decided against paying £26 million to sign him at the end of his loan.

Rashford has since been forced to reconsider his options this summer and has been heavily linked with moves to Turkey, Germany, Italy and Saudi Arabia, with multiple Premier League clubs also keen on recruiting him before the September 1 deadline.

All eyes are now on what Michael Carrick decides to do with the electric winger after he returned to training this week, and the United boss is seemingly welcoming his return with open arms.

"We have got a full squad this week in Dublin. We fly straight there and have a few days where we have the whole group back together. Marcus is part of that," he said.

There is a chance that Carrick could fully integrate the winger back into the squad, and that increased when Rashford was given the No.14 shirt earlier this week as a 'message to trust him'.

Rashford could become the left wing option that the Red Devils are crying out for, or even offer an alternative option to Benjamin Sesko through the middle.

The England star could feature for United when they travel to newly-promoted Hull City on the opening Saturday of the Premier League season (August 22), but until the transfer window slams shut at the start of next month, his future remains unclear.

According to The Mirror, Rashford would prefer to find a new club and continue to revive his career elsewhere after a torrid past 18 months at Old Trafford.

'He believes there has been too much bad blood between him and his hometown club. And he knows there is still time in the summer window for him to negotiate a deal with someone else which suits him,' the report read.

Rashford's current contract expires in 2028, presenting him with two options. He can either run down the remaining two years of his deal and leave for nothing or use the next campaign to put himself in the shop window in the hope of securing a dream move in 2027.

The Englishman earns a reported £300,000 per week, and that eye-watering sum is a key reason why the club have struggled to get him off their wage bill.

Time will tell as to whether he exits his boyhood club once and for all or seizes an opportunity to impress under Carrick and rediscover his best form in the Premier League.

Rashford clearly prefers the former, although sanctioning a deal is easier said than done.
