Harry Kane's chance of Tottenham return revealed after Bayern Munich agreement

Bayern Munich are edging closer to agreeing a new contract with Harry Kane, but while that will temporarily dent his chances of returning to the Premier League, a future transfer to England's top flight cannot be ruled out.

Speculation over Kane's future at Bayern has been a long-running discussion since he enjoyed the best campaign of his career at club level.

The 33-year-old plundered an eye-watering 61 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions for the German giants, who were beaten in the Champions League semi-final by eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain.

Kane even continued that searing form into the World Cup, where his six goals helped England reach the semi-finals before losing in the dying embers to Argentina.

Following a disappointing ending to the tournament, attention quickly turned to his future at club level, with his contract at the Allianz Arena set to expire in June 2027.

A precarious situation for arguably the world's best striker drew speculation towards a potential return to the Premier League with Tottenham, as well as interest from Manchester United and Barcelona.

United's co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is a big admirer of Kane and explored the possibility of bringing him to Old Trafford; however, the goalscoring machine has his heart set on remaining at Bayern.

Kane revealed towards the end of July that he would begin contract talks with Bayern once he returned from his summer holiday, and now those plans have come to fruition.

The Times have reported that England's record goalscorer is set to be handed a contract until June 2029, a month before he turns 36, shutting down the prospect of a return to the Premier League this summer.

The former Tottenham star has his aims firmly set on winning more trophies in Bavaria, but once he's achieved that, he could have a different goal in mind.

According to TEAMtalk's Graeme Bailey, Kane could secure a new contract agreement with Bayern by the end of August.

The club are 'progressing' in negotiations with their talisman, and this news will be music to the ears of those associated with the club, but less so with Tottenham.

Spurs have longed for Kane to make a fairytale return to north London, leaving the door open for a player who scored 280 goals in 435 appearances for the Lilywhites.

A three-year contract certainly puts a dagger in their chances of sealing a sensational transfer for their legendary striker, but it doesn't mean he won't return in the future.

"Bayern are prepared to offer Kane a three-year deal despite his age, with sources believing that such an agreement would still leave the door open for a return to the Premier League later in his career," the above report reads.

"Indeed, there is a feeling that even if Kane remains in Germany for another three years, he could still have a couple of seasons available to play in England before calling time on his career."

There has been talk of Kane returning to the Premier League to break Alan Shearer's record of 260 goals - currently 47 behind the Newcastle United legend.

Providing he's still performing at the top of his game at 36, there is a chance he could finish his career at Spurs and become the division's record goalscorer.
