Manchester United appear to have dropped a clear hint on Marcus Rashford's future in a telling club statement.

Ever since Ruben Amorim's arrival at the club back in November, it appears that the writing has been on the wall for United winger Rashford.

Just one month after replacing former manager Erik ten Hag, Amorim made the bold decision to drop Rashford from the squad for arguably the biggest match of the season local rivals Manchester City, sparking rumours that the forward could be set to leave the club.

Not long after, United decided to allow Rashford to join Premier League rivals Aston Villa on a short-term loan in January, with all signs pointing towards a permanent move in the summer.

And now, United's latest club statement has added further fuel to the rumours suggesting Rashford's departure is imminent.

Following months of rumours, United confirmed that Matheus Cunha was joining the club as the first major signing in what is expected to be a busy summer.

After his arrival, many fans had speculated which shirt number the striker would take at United, and it has now been confirmed that he will replace Rashford as the club's no.10.

However, perhaps most damning about this decision, is that in the club statement announcing Cunha's shirt number, United made no reference to Rashford whatsoever.

The statement confirmed: "Matheus Cunha will wear the no.10 shirt as a Manchester United player.

"Cunha was the no.10 at Wolves last season, when he scored 15 goals in 33 games after succeeding Daniel Podence.

"He previously wore 12 for the Black Country club and donned no.9 and no.19 while at Atletico Madrid.

"Matheus was no.10 for Hertha Berlin during the 2020/21 season but had a variety of different shirt numbers at his other clubs Sion and RB Leipzig.

"The number is a famous one in his native Brazil, having been synonymous with several of the country's biggest stars."

Although there are several clubs believed to be interested in signing Rashford, recent reports have suggested that La Liga winners Barcelona have established themselves as the clear favourites.

After missing out on top target Nico Williams, who recently signed a new deal with current team Athletic Club, it appears that the Spanish giants will step up their pursuit of the England international, who has already informed United of his desire to leave.
