Garnacho Speaks Out on Ruben Amorim Treatment Before Chelsea Move

The Argentinian winger moved from Manchester United to Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

Former Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho spoke of the treatment he received from Ruben Amorim before completing his summer transfer to Chelsea.

Garnacho, 21, started in Chelsea’s 1-0 Champions League league phase win against Benfica on Jose Mourinho’s return to Stamford Bridge.

The youngster showed promise without scoring in a relatively low-key victory for Enzo Maresca’s side.

The 21-year-old’s showing was his fourth appearance for the Blues since completing a £40million move from Man United in August.

Garnacho ended his United career under a cloud, having fallen out of favour with Red Devils head coach Amorim following the Europa League final defeat to Spurs in Bilbao in May.

He appeared furious after being benched for the showpiece and made his feelings clear in a post-match interview.

"Up until the final, I played every round helping the team, and today I play 20 minutes, I don't know,” said Garnacho at the time.

It was later reported that Garnacho was then told to find a new club by Amorim before becoming part of the club’s so-called ‘bomb squad’ alongside Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Antony and Tyrell Malacia.

Antony, who has since signed for La Liga outfit Real Betis, recently described the experience of being frozen out as “very tough” and claimed he felt “disrespected” by the football club.

“They were very tough months in England, more than 40 days in the hotel, training separately… I feel like they disrespected me, but that’s not the point,” Antony told Onda Cero, as per Sport Witness.

And on Tuesday, Garnacho spoke of his personal experience in his final days as a United player.

Speaking to TNT Sports, the Argentina international said: “I think it was a difficult moment there, just training alone.

“But I have nothing bad to say about the club, my old club Manchester United.

“It was just a bad moment in life, but now I’m very happy to be here and to play in this competition and to get the three points today.”

When asked whether now playing in the Champions League made his issues at United worthwhile, Garnacho replied: “Of course, yeah.

“When we were young, we dreamed of playing Champions League nights and we are here now so I’m very happy.

“It’s three big points. We needed that after losing our first game, so we’re all very happy.”
