Sky Sports forced to apologise as Rayan Cherki makes X-rated comment live on air

Sky Sports were forced to intervene after Rayan Cherki made an X-rated comment during his post-match interview following Manchester City’s 4-1 win over Crystal Palace.

Cherki was presented with the Player of the Match award for a stunning showing in which he scored twice to help maintain Enzo Maresca’s perfect Premier League record as City boss.

Shortly after the game, the France international was interviewed on the Selhurst Park pitch alongside teammate Erling Haaland, who also bagged a brace.

Despite playing a huge role in City’s win, it appears Cherki was not too pleased with his performance, based on his post-match interview with Sky, with the former Lyon man even describing his showing as “s***”, which prompted the presenter to apologise for his language.

“We played well. New manager and all of that, but we’ve played together most of us. We have to trust the system,” Haaland said.

Cherki added: “I played so s***.”

"In the first half, we didn't find the space.... I need to show them I want to play, I want to score," he continued. "Next time I want to give the ball around more."

On his solo goal, Cherki explained: "I'm very happy for the win, see you next week. Pep [Guardiola] was a big story, we will start another story. We want to prove it and are here for that."

Fans saw the funny side of his remark on social media.

One said: “Cherki said he ‘played like s***’ in the first half, in his post-match interview.”

Another added: “The Sky presenter apologising in case anyone was offended by Cherki saying the word s*** at 10 o’clock at night and Haaland saying, ‘I don’t think they were’ whilst laughing at him!”

A third claimed: “I was wondering why Cherki looked a bit down despite his 2 goals. He just said he thinks he could have done better in the first half. In his words he said he played s***. He’s sad that he couldn’t give Haaland an assist.”

A fourth commented: “Cherki has cracked me up in his post-match interview. WTF. He said he played ‘s***’ in the first half. Immediately he saw that Maresca might change him, he stepped up so the manager doesn’t sub him off.”

While a fifth waded in: “Cherki just said s*** live on Sky and in 2026 the interviewer still has to apologise if ‘anyone got offended’. Ridiculous! It’s past 9pm. Who cares if he said s***!”

City return to action at home against Coventry City on September 5.
