A video has emerged online which appears to show a section of Real Oviedo supporters racially abusing Marcus Rashford during Barcelona’s 3-1 win against the La Liga newcomers on Thursday.
Rashford, 27, is currently on loan at Barcelona from Manchester United for the 2025/26 campaign.
The England international has had a mixed start to life in Catalonia as there were initially concerns about whether he could he registered to play in La Liga due to issues regarding Barca’s finances.
However, he was registered and has since featured seven times for the club, registering two goals and three assists – one of which came in the 3-1 win against Oviedo on Thursday.

The 27-year-old provided the assist for Ronald Araujo’s late header after Eric Garcia and Robert Lewandowski had earlier put Barca into the lead despite Oviedo initially leading in the first half thanks to a long-range strike from Alberto Reina.
This came after Rashford was left out of Hansi Flick’s starting XI for the La Liga clash against Getafe last weekend, as he was late to training.

But Thursday's game was overshadowed by the actions of a section of home supporters inside the Carlos Tartier Stadium.

There have been many incidents involving racism in La Liga in recent years, causing several high-profile players such as Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior and Barca forward Raphinha to speak out on the matter.
Speaking via Barcelona’s official website in 2023, Raphinha said: “Nothing ever changes, and some important people need to take action in the matter. It happens in every game, and we have to change things, and those in charge have to change."

Then, in November 2024, both Raphinha and Lamine Yamal were subjected to racial abuse during Barca’s 4-0 ‘El Clásico’ win against Real at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Spanish Police later confirmed that three arrests were made “for racist insults aimed at two footballers”.

Earlier that year, three Valencia fans were sentenced to eight months in prison for hate crimes against Vini Jr during a match at the Estadio Mestalla in 2023. The men were also given a two-year stadium ban and ordered to pay the legal costs of proceedings.

The fixture was halted for several minutes when the Brazilian pointed to the stands, appearing to tell his teammates that a man had called him a monkey and made gestures of an ape, as reported by The Guardian.
Speaking in an interview with ESPN in 2024, La Liga president Javier Tebas demanded further prison sentences for fans who racially abuse players.
He said: “We will continue until the end; if we have to put in jail those who shout or sing about racism, we will be there."
Tebas added: “We have special cameras in the risk zones of the matches where we believe there may be an outcry."
