Police are investigating reports of death threats sent to goalkeeper Loris Karius.
The German goalie had a howler of a game in the Champions League final. His two mistakes cost Liverpool a goal a piece and Real Madrid sailed through to victory 3-1 in Kiev, Ukraine.
After the game, the goalkeeper was in floods of tears and he walked towards the Liverpool supporters to beg for forgiveness. The general sentiment from Reds supporters is that they sympathise with him but cannot see Karius being their number one choice for next season now.
Karius had reached fine form in 2018 and took over from Simon Mignolet as Jurgen Klopps' preferred choice. Everything seemed quite rosy but then the German's mistakes cost Liverpool their first European trophy in 13 years.

As a result, Karius has been getting grieve on social media. Some taunts from Everton and Man United supporters, some annoyed messages from Liverpool, but some of a lot harder, with even death threats from a small minority of Liverpool fans.
Posts from Liverpool fans on Twitter included such abuse as: "I'll murder your girl [sic] I'll murder your girl".
Others said that the 'keeper's: "sons deserve to die of cancer", before adding: "I hope your whole family dies".
A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said via The Telegraph that now police officers were investigating the comments said to Karius "The force takes social media posts of this nature extremely seriously and any offences identified will be investigated."

There has also been messages of vile hate aimed at Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos, who hard-hitting tackle injured Liverpool star player Mohamed Salah during the final - it's recently been reported that the Egyptian King is only out for three weeks and will be fit to play in the World Cup.
For Karius it seems that his Liverpool career as their number one is over. Let's just hope those who hiding behind a keyboard sending death threats get their just deserts.
