Ralf Rangnick’s only Man Utd signing told he can leave on a permanent transfer this summer

A host of academy graduates could leave Manchester United this summer, including Ralf Rangnick's only signing from his interim spell in charge at Old Trafford.

Rangnick, who spent six months at United between November 2021 and May 2022, took charge of 29 games as interim boss, winning 11, drawing 10 and losing eight after replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

It was certainly a memorable spell. Unlike many coaches, he was willing to speak openly about transfers.

According to BILD, Rangnick listed nine players he felt United should have signed to compete, including Alvaro Morata, Luis Diaz, Dusan Vlahovic, Josko Gvardiol, Christopher Nkunku, Erling Haaland, Enzo Fernandez, Julian Alvarez and Konrad Laimer.

Rangnick was also keen for the club to chase a move for then-Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, but the club decided against signing any of Rangnick's recommendations.

In fact, the only player that signed for United under Rangnick was signed after the January window closed, with highly-rated defensive midfielder Toby Collyer joining from Brighton in March 2022.

Collyer, who was 18 years old at the time, was initially signed to play for United's under-21 side.

He has since made 13 first-team appearances for the Manchester club, with his last competitive game coming in March last year, when he came on as a second-half sub in a 3-0 win over Leicester City.

But now, it appears his four-year spell at United is coming to an end after the midfielder was told he can leave on a permanent deal this summer, according to The Sun.

The report claims a number of Championship clubs have expressed interest in signing Collyer, who featured in an under-21 game against Altringham on Friday, just hours after being omitted from the squad that faced Atletico Madrid.

The 22-year-old has previously spent time on loan at West Brom and Hull City.

Four more academy products could leave United this summer

As well as Collyer, fellow graduates Dan Gore, Chido Obi and Jacob Devaney could also leave Old Trafford this summer.

Gore, who was on loan at League One side Rotherham last season, is expected to leave on a permanent transfer, while highly-rated pair Chido Obi and Jacob Devaney are expected to be shipped out on loan.

Everton, meanwhile, are interested in signing Ethan Wheatley. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Toffees are preparing a formal approach for the 20-year-old striker.
