Man Utd handed huge transfer blow as Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal sparks domino effect

If Bruno Guimarães completes a transfer to Arsenal, it may have a disastrous impact on Manchester United’s summer dealings.

Newcastle captain Guimarães has reportedly told the North East club that he wants to leave this summer, with the Brazilian heavily linked with Premier League champions Arsenal.

The midfielder, who has two seasons remaining on his deal, has joined his teammates in La Manga, Spain, for the Magpies' pre-season training despite links with the Gunners, with the club still hoping Guimarães stays this summer following the departures of key players Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, who have joined Spurs and Barcelona respectively.

Eddie Howe also left his position as head coach last week, with Germany’s Matthias Jaissle set to take up the vacancy.

On Monday (August 3), Arsenal saw an opening bid rejected within the region of £70-80 million by Newcastle, although the Gunners will likely table a second offer.

And while Newcastle and Arsenal are the two clubs directly involved in the transfer saga, Manchester United may also be keeping a close eye on developments, as they could impact their pursuit of English left-back Lewis Hall.

According to reports, Newcastle want a fee of £60million for Hall, with United making the full-back their priority, having already welcomed Andrey Santos, Karl Darlow, Youri Tielemans and Tynan Thompson to Old Trafford this summer.

Newcastle reportedly want to keep Hall and may be in a stronger financial position if Guimarães' move to Arsenal is completed, potentially blocking the sale or raising the price United are expected to pay.

Fabrizio Romano issues update on Lewis Hall to Man Utd

Over the weekend, Fabrizio Romano provided an update on United’s pursuit of Hall.

“Man Utd really appreciate Lewis Hall and Man Utd consider Lewis Hall as an ideal player they would like to add to their squad,” he said on his YouTube channel.

“So, Lewis Hall is on the Manchester United list, for sure, and he’s a player internally approved at Manchester United.

“But, my understanding is that Newcastle will make their life complicated. Newcastle don’t want to sell Lewis Hall.

“Newcastle already made big money this summer from Tonali, Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes… He (Guimaraes) is expected to join Arsenal this summer.

“We have to wait for the club-to-club agreement but the deal is moving in the right direction. Bruno wants to go to Arsenal.

“So, Newcastle wants to keep Lewis Hall and Newcastle don’t want to sell the player. That’s the indication, that’s the message. Then if you ask me, Man Utd consider him top target? Yes.

“Man Utd are having some contacts to understand the situation of Lewis Hall? Yes, for sure.

“But then there is Newcastle and so before saying Man Utd are going to try all in, we have to understand Newcastle stance and Newcastle position.”

Hall is contracted to the Magpies until 2029.

Joelinton is also reportedly angling for a transfer and would prefer a move to Saudi Arabia.

Newcastle have opted to bring young players in during the summer transfer window, signing 20-year-olds Bouzoumana Touré, Aladji Bamba and Ewen Jaouen from Hoffenheim, AS Monaco and Stade de Reims respectively.

Eighteen-year-old midfielder Sean Steur has also arrived from Ajax, while 24-year-old goalkeeper Lukáš Horníček has joined from Braga.

Newcastle get their Premier League campaign under way at home against Liverpool on August 23.
