New Bruno Guimaraes asking price uncovered as Newcastle soften stance against Arsenal

Arsenal are continuing their pursuit of Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, and his fresh asking price has been revealed.

The summer transfer so far has been dominated by Premier League clubs trading midfielders for huge fees.

Elliot Anderson's £116million transfer from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City set the standard, and more eye-watering sums have since been thrown around.

Tottenham completed the signings of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali for a combined £185m from West Ham and Newcastle, respectively, with Chelsea since breaking the British transfer record for the second time this summer with their £117m capture of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa.

A record-breaking amount of money has been shelled out on midfielders in the Premier League, and selling clubs have used these figures as an example of what other top talents are worth.

That process applies to Newcastle, who reportedly placed a £100m valuation on Bruno Guimaraes when Arsenal discussed the Brazilian's availability.

The Magpies are reluctant to sell the 28-year-old after offloading Tonali for an initial £92.5m to Spurs. However, since Guimaraes has already told the club he wants to join the Gunners, it seems inevitable that he will depart.

Ben Jacobs reported on Tuesday that Arsenal are 'accelerating' their interest in his signature, seeing a £65m bid rejected through intermediaries, with Newcastle insisting they want to keep their captain.

The Premier League champions are expected to submit another bid north of £70m, according to Jacobs, and they now know what they must pay to secure his services.

Only last week, it was said that Newcastle wanted £100m from Arsenal for the Brazil international, but the club have reportedly now lowered their asking price.

Sky Sports' reporter Keith Downie revealed on Wednesday that the North East giants will consider selling the all-action midfielder for upwards of £80m, suggesting he could leave St James' Park for less than what Tonali did.

"What would be the tipping point for Newcastle? I think it has to start with an eight," Downie said. "He is going to be 29 soon. They got £100m for Sandro Tonali but Bruno is three years older, so that means his value is a little bit less.

"Newcastle are desperate not to sell him. They've said he's not for sale. But once a player agitates to go, it's really difficult to hold on to him.

Guimaraes has become one of the Premier League's best midfielders since joining the club for £40m from Lyon in January 2022.

The metronome was incredibly influential during a disappointing campaign under Eddie Howe, producing 15 goal involvements in the top flight in 29 appearances.

A difference-maker in the final third, but also an incredible ball-winner and carrier, Guimaraes is a complete midfielder who would improve Mikel Arteta's engine room ten-fold.

The 48-cap Brazil international could form a brilliant partnership with Declan Rice and play the prime years of his career at a team that will continue to battle for trophies.

Guimaraes won the Carabao Cup with Newcastle in 2025, but a switch to Arsenal would give him an excellent chance of winning the Premier League.

An offer upwards of £80m should secure his signature, as this saga looks set to rumble on.
