Anthony Joshua reportedly set to fight undefeated Aussie prospect in stadium bout

The Australian might be a relatively unknown name in the world, but he’s been steadily climbing the ranks with an undefeated record.

A huge fight is reportedly in the works between superstar Anthony Joshua and undefeated Aussie Demsey McKean.

In perhaps a left-field opponent than the Brit is usually pitted up against, FoxSports reports that Joshua’s team is looking at McKean for the next bout.

The former unified heavyweight champion hasn’t fought since his loss to Oleksandr Usyk in August.

And while the Australian might be a relatively unknown name in the world, he’s been steadily climbing the ranks.

With 22 wins, 14 knockouts, and zero losses McKean has found himself in the top 10 rankings and is most certainly due a megafight.

He claimed the IBF Intercontinental heavyweight belt from Patrick Korte in October and called his shot following the bout in which he claimed he’d done enough to warrant a fight with the Englishman.

AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn also believes the bout makes sense.

He said, via FoxSports: “He’s 22-0, he’s top 10 in the world, what more have you got to do?

“He’s yet to fight one of those elite guys but that’s what happens, you build your record, you learn in the game, you build yourself up the rankings and then you fight one of the elite guys, that’s the natural step next.”

The pair are reportedly edging toward a stadium bout in April at London’s 02 Arena.

TalkSport’s Gareth A. Davies believes it makes perfect sense for Joshua to pit himself against McKean for his return fight.

He said on the Fight Night boxing podcast: “I think he’ll fight Demsey McKean, the undefeated Australian who’s ranked 10 with the WBO and I think 11 with the IBF.

“That will be a two or three-round knockout win for Anthony Joshua, probably at the O2 Arena, you won’t be able to get a seat.

“Then I think early in the summer, he’ll fight Dillian Whyte in Joshua-Whyte 2… I think he’ll knock out Dillian Whyte.

“It’ll be a brilliant build-up, they could sell out Wembley for that or take them to a massive football stadium.

“I think he’ll have a big year this year.”

Joshua would most definitely enter the fight as an immense favourite.

However, McKean certainly has the resume to potentially cause an upset.
