The Glazers have already set an asking price for Man Utd sale

Manchester United fans would love their American owners to sell up but it won't be cheap for any potential buyer of the Premier League club.

Manchester United fans might be desperate to see the Glazers sell their club but it's going to take a lot of money for the Americans to leave.

Supporters at Old Trafford have not been happy with the Glazers ever since they took over at United back in May 2005, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' owners using loans in order to buy the club.

Even when United were Premier League and Champions League winners under the Americans, fans still protested against their ownership.

Things have only been getting worse in recent years, with the team on the pitch and the facilities at Old Trafford, and the club's training ground, declining with no investment from the owners' money, as they continue to only take it out of the club.

Former United board member Michael Knighton, who tried to buy the club in 1989 and famously did keepie ups on the pitch before a game, has recently claimed he wants to get a consortium together to buy United from the Glazers.

However, it won't be cheap, with the Mirror reporting last year that they would only sell for £4 billion, with the continued commercial power of the team, despite recent results, the reason behind the high valuation.

Of course, the results on the pitch have only made for more annoyance about the ownership from fans, as they fall further behind rivals Manchester City and Liverpool, on and off the pitch.

Being embarrassed 4-0 to Brentford on Saturday has left Erik ten Hag's side bottom of the Premier League, after two games, with zero points.

It doesn't get any easier for them either, with their next game against Jurgen Klopp's team a week on Monday, which is likely to see more protests.

The hashtag 'EmptyOldTrafford' started trending earlier this week, with match goers planning on leaving Old Trafford empty for the game with their fiercest rivals.

It would be the second major protest for a game against Liverpool, with fans actually getting the game against them postponed in 2021, when no fans were allowed inside the ground during the Covid season.

The team itself is certainly in need of a boost, having lost to both Brentford and Brighton in the first two game weeks of the new league campaign.

Ten Hag is still desperately trying to sign more players and is reportedly angry after being promised five new players in the summer and only getting three in so far.
