Manchester United are bottom of the Premier League after losing 4-0 against Brentford on Saturday evening.

After a miserable showing last week against Brighton, United fans were hoping for a much improved performance from the Red Devils, however, they were worse as Brentford easily swept them aside.

Josh Dasilva gave the Bees the lead in the 10th minutes after United keeper David de Gea fumbled his tame effort.

Just eight minutes later, it was 2-0 to the home side as Mathias Jensen pressed United into trouble after some poor play at the back by De Gea and former Brentford player Christian Eriksen.

Ben Mee then headed in Brentford’s third goal when United again failed to defend a ball into their box. Erik ten Hag’s side were being bullied and battered in every area of the pitch.

Bryan Mbeumo made it 4-0 after a stunning counter attack helped by some haphazard defending again by the away side.

Former United player Gary Neville said whilst commentating for Sky Sports: “Brentford are not having it, they are all over them like a rash, Manchester United are in a mess.

“They are being pressed like you would not believe and they are crumbling in this first 20 minutes. Shell-shocked, Erik ten Hag… and this is no surprise whatsoever.”

Thomas Frank’s side went into the break 4-0 up as a shell shocked United side dragged themselves back into the changing rooms.

Ten Hag brought on Scott McTominay, Raphael Varane and summer signing Tyrell Malacia at the start of the second half in order to add more height into his side.

United were slightly better in the second half but it was clear that Brentford had already taken their foot off the gas as they showed great game management to hold on to their advantage.

As a result of the match, United now sit bottom of the Premier League, they are already on the back foot compared to their rivals.

Fans showed their discontent over the awful performance by United. One fan said on talkSPORT: “I’m done with this team. The defence and midfield is disgraceful. It’s just a joke.

“I’m sick of these players. We’re making Brentford look like Pep’s Barca.”

It was clear from day one that the job in hand for Ten Hag was a huge one, but even him wouldn't have expected such a poor showing by his side. Especially after a more than promising pre season in which they hammered Liverpool 4-0.

Things are not going to get easier for Ten Hag and his men as they will face Liverpool at Old Trafford next Monday. United fans, strap yourselves in, it is going to be a tough ride this season.
