Liverpool learn Crystal Palace asking price for Ismaila Sarr and it speaks volumes

Liverpool are in the market for another winger after sealing Bradley Barcola's transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, and Crystal Palace forward Ismaila Sarr is one option they've explored.

After an exhausting summer of negotiations, Liverpool agreed a blockbuster £120 million deal in principle for PSG's Barcola, with the 23-year-old undergoing a medical at Anfield before signing a five-year contract.

Barcola was Andoni Iraola's top target to replace the long-serving Mohamed Salah, and now that they've finally got their man, the Reds can focus their efforts elsewhere.

On Saturday evening, shortly after their 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest, it emerged that winger Cody Gakpo is closing in on a sensational £85 million transfer to Manchester City after snubbing Tottenham Hotspur's advances.

Gakpo, who assisted Alexander Isak in the draw with Forest, has agreed personal terms over a move to the Etihad Stadium, but can't officially depart Merseyside until Liverpool sign a replacement.

The Reds saw two bids of £50m and £60m rejected for Brighton & Hove Albion attacker Yankuba Minteh earlier this week, pulling the plug on negotiations after the Seagulls demanded £80m for the 22-year-old.

A similar narrative has unfolded in their pursuit of Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr. The Eagles have turned down two offers for the 28-year-old, the first being £50m, but a deal is said to be 'progressing'.

In fact, journalist and African football expert Lamine Camara - who has amassed over 100,000 followers across Facebook and X - has revealed that Liverpool will submit a new offer for Sarr in the next 48 hours.

Camara believes that the next proposal will be between €75m (£64m) and €80m (£68m), which would make him the most expensive Senegalese player in English history.

The figure being touted for the Senegalese international suggests the Reds have become desperate to sign a forward before the window shuts on September 1 - and Palace know it.

Sarr surpassed 20 goals in all competitions for Palace last season as they clinched the Europa Conference League, and Pierre Sage is understandably desperate to keep his influential attacker.

A fee surpassing £60m for someone who turns 29 in February is arguably a poor investment for Liverpool, as they're unlikely to ever recoup what they paid.

But what he will offer to Iraola's attack in the short-term, including his explosive pace, power and end product, is exactly what the Spaniard wants.

Sarr can also operate in multiple positions across the frontline, demonstrating his ability to play on either flank or as a centre forward during his time at Selhurst Park.

A move to Anfield could, therefore, be on the cards in the closing stages of the window, allowing Gakpo to join Man City.

Speaking after the 2-2 draw against Forest, Iraola discussed the Reds' transfer business, confirming that things are happening behind the scenes.

"I cannot tell you anything right now, but it is true that there are things going on and that is normal," he said.

"We are in the last weeks of the market and now we have to wait to see the squad that we will have on September 2, and this is who we are.

"We will then work with certainties. Now everything is quite uncertain and same for every team. But this is how the competition works. So now wait just some more days and we work with what we have after the market closes."
