Liverpool learn Ronald Araujo transfer price as loan deal details emerge

Details of Ronald Araujo's surprise transfer to Liverpool have emerged, including the price to make the loan move permanent.

Following the surprise signing of Spanish winger Victor Munoz after triggering the €40million (£34.6m) release clause of his Osasuna contract in June, Liverpool have been relatively quiet this summer.

It's widely been reported that Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola is Andoni Iraola's top transfer target this summer as Liverpool look to replace club legend Mohamed Salah.

Ibrahim Mbaye, Barcola's young PSG teammate, is another name that has been strongly linked with a move to Anfield while defenders like England pair Ezri Konsa and Djed Spence have reportedly been considered.

Barcelona defender Araujo is not a name that had been linked with Liverpool at all this summer, and yet a 'surprise bomba' from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the 27-year-old was set to join Liverpool in the coming days.

The Uruguay international who can play both centre-back and right-back, is set to join Liverpool on a season-long loan deal, with Liverpool agreeing to pay 100% of his salary.

Having recently penned a new deal extending his Barcelona contract until 2031, Liverpool will pay Araujo a net annual salary of €11million, which works out to be around £180k per week.

This places him sixth in the club's top earners, behind only Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexander Isak, Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo.

The deal also includes an option to buy the defender at the end of the loan, with Sky Sports confirming that the price to make the move permanent is around €55m (£47.14m).

Araujo is set to to fly to Liverpool on Sunday in order to formalise his season-long loan deal, completing a medical and signing the necessary paperwork before putting on a Liverpool shirt for the first time.

Will Liverpool sign another defender this summer after Ronald Araujo deal?

Although Liverpool fans are undoubtedly happy to have Araujo joining the club ahead of the season starting in just two weeks time, many feel that the club is still light at the back.

As well as losing Ibrahima Konate and Andrew Robertson following the expiration of their contracts, Liverpool are currently without the likes of Conor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni, Jeremy Jacquet and Joe Gomez due to injury.

Despite the links to Konsa and Spence, it doesn't look like there's any guarantees that another defender will join Iraola's side this summer.

But, speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano admitted that there is still a possibility that Liverpool sign another right-back this summer, saying: "I can’t say that Liverpool will not sign a right-back in the final weeks of the transfer window, but the focus was centre-back," Romano said In another report before confirming the Araujo signing, he said: "There are many reports on right-back. If I know something on right-back, I will let you know.

“At the moment I am not aware of movements for Djed Spence, despite reports. If something happens, I will let you know."

Liverpool begin their Premier League season with a trip to St James' Park to player Newcastle United on Sunday, August 23.
