Manchester United fans are planning to boycott the club’s next match at Old Trafford against Liverpool as they continue their protests against the Glazer family.

The hashtag #EmptyOldTrafford has been gathering pace amongst United fans on social media. Their latest plan will mean seats at Old Trafford will remain unoccupied for the visit of Liverpool on August 22 in order to express their discontent to the Glazers.

One fan said on Twitter: “How the Glazer’s were allowed to borrow £600M from the bank, bought #MUFC, placed that debt on top of the club, took out £1.5B and placed us on the stock exchange to benefit from dividends is mind boggling. #EmptyOldTrafford”

Another tweeted: “I’ve not missed a home game in 9 years. I'll be missing this one. I'm sick to death of the Glazers. We only have a few things in life we love, I'm not letting that Glazers ruing this one anymore. Man Utd v Liverpool #EmptyOldTrafford”

And a third added: “Enough of the excuses, you’re either against the Glazers or you’re a Glazer enabler! Enough is enough. Times up, we have to stop funding them, the Glazers need to be forced out! #GlazersOut #EmptyOldTrafford”

This is shaping up to be another United vs Liverpool match at Old Trafford that will be marred with controversy. Just like last year when the game between the two fierce rivals had to be called off.

United fans planned protests ahead of last season’s meeting, thousands waited outside Old Trafford before breaking into the ground, some climbed onto the goals, some were having a kick about on the pitch and a few ripped out the corner flags.

Things turned ugly after fans clashed with the police, resulting in several people being injured whilst one police officer had his face slashed by a bottle and required hospital treatment.

Last Sunday, before Erik ten Hag’s first Premier League match, fans were marching in protest prior to kick off. A banner was held up by the fans, it read: “Fight greed, fight for United, fight Glazer.”

The miserable performance by United did not help calm the fans down as many chanted ‘we want Glazers out’ during the match.

Relationship between fans and the owners is at a point of no return. This is the last thing Ten Hag needs as he aims to restore confidence back into his players and bring the glory days back to Old Trafford.
