Reports say Napoli want to sign the 'new Scott McTominay'. But they have to first make a key decision if they want to bring him to the current Serie A champions.
In May, Antonio Conte's men won their second Scudetto title in three years by beating out Inter Milan on the final day of the Serie A season. Scott McTominay was the star of the show for them and he won the MVP of the league for his performances throughout the season.
He has more than enjoyed his stint in Naples after moving from Manchester United and the team has shown its desire to build around him despite the arrival of Premier League icon, Kevin De Bruyne.
Club hierarchy is now focused on building a strong roster and has been linked with a bunch of talented players around Europe including Scottish midfielder Lewis Ferguson, who is currently at central figure at Italian club Bologna.

However, if they are to bring in Ferguson, reports state that Napoli will have to sell Frank Anguissa who has also been brilliant for the club, to manage their finances and maintain a balance in the squad.

Who is Lewis Ferguson?
Unlike McTominay, who graduated from the United academy, Ferguson started his football journey in Scotland playing for the Hamilton Academical.

He moved to Aberdeen in 2018 and became a key part of their setup there, scoring 27 goals in 132 games from the midfield.
Ferguson's best season with the Dons came in the 2020-21 season as he scored 10 goals for them and was their top scorer.
Several clubs were looking to acquire him from the Scottish side, but he decided to make the move to Bologna in 2022.
Just a year after signing, Ferguson was announced as the captain of the team.

He was named as the Seria A midfielder of the year for his contributions in the 2023-24 season were he scored six goals and assisted twice.

Ferguson at the core of Bologna history
Bologna have received a lot of praise in the last couple of years because of their good performances. They ended their 51 year trophy drought by winning the Copa Italia this year.

Ferguson was the captain of the side and he became only the second Scottish player to captain an Italian team to Copa Italia success.
His brilliance with Bologna has sparked the interest of several clubs like AC Milan, Inter Mian and Juventus according to Il Mattino and Gazzetta dello Sport.
However, Napoli can the Scottish player to their ranks by making a decision on Anguissa, who is valued at €20million.
The Cameroonian has scored six goals and assisted four times for the Scudetto winners. Anguissa also has a contract until 2027 and offloading him would help them get the money to sign Ferguson.

The new Scott McTominay?
Ferguson and McTominay are both Scottish midfielders, which mean the prospect of them playing together should excite a lot of fans.
The former is 25 but isn't a McTominay carbon copy by any means. Both have played together as part of the Scottish national team and it remains to be seen if they can play together in Naples.
Although Ferguson can score, his role at Bologna has been keeping things under control.
Napoli have another Scottish midfielder, Billy Gilmour, and he has also had a great season with the Italian side. If Ferguson joins the team, the midfield trio of the three could certainly work with McTominay and Ferguson playing a bit more advanced role, while Gilmour plays behind them.
In three seasons, Ferguson has had a great deal of success in Italy, winning the award for the best midfielder once and captaining his side to Copa Italia success, but joining Napoli would be another great boost for him as he will get to be in a team that competes for trophies.
