Napoli could be forced into unthinkable decision involving Scott McTominay after reports of potential transfer issues emerged.
McTominay signed for Napoli from Manchester United in a £25.7 million transfer in 2024 and he produced an incredible debut season, scoring 13 goals in all competitions from midfield and firing Antonio Conte's men to a fourth Serie A title.
His excellent form was rewarded with the Most Valuable Player award and a nomination for the Ballon d'Or.
This season, McTominay has found the net on five occasions for Napoli, who are two points off the top and recently lifted the Supercoppa Italiana courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Bologna in the final in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

But days later and La Gazzetta dello Sport, as per IlBianconero, have reported that there are some financial concerns for Napoli.

While Lazio are set to be relieved from a transfer embargo from the independent commission, both Napoli and Pisa could be in trouble as they are understood to have fallen afoul of "expanded labour cost to revenue” regulations.
Napoli are believed to have fallen below the 0.8 threshold and failure to meet it could bring about difficulties in the transfer market as the club will effectively have to balance the books by selling players in order to make new signings and be at a equal level.

Given the level at which has stock has risen, McTominay, one of the club's top assets, would appear to be a leading contender to be sold for a sizeable fee if Napoli do find themselves in financial restrictions.
According to Transfer Markt, McTominay has a current value of €45 million and would undoubtedly see Napoli make a considerable profit on the 29-year-old.

The situation could get worse for Napoli in the near future though as when the summer rolls around, the threshold will be set to 0.7 and not complying could result in the worst possible scenario in the form of a transfer ban.
Currently third in the league, Napoli return to action on 28 December when they travel to Cremonese before another away game against Lazio in Rome in their first game of 2026 on 4 January.
