Wrexham player 'missed' promotion party with Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney as what he did instead emerges

'Welcome to Wrexham' star skipped star-studded Red Dragons party but had an incredible weekend anyway

Saturday was a historic day even by the recent standards of Wrexham and the club's famous owners threw a 'wild' party to mark the occasion.

Wrexham are the first team to achieve three consecutive promotions to rise from the National League to the Championship in just three years.

Owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have been in charge since 2021 and are making good on their promises as the Red Dragons roar up the divisions. They clearly know how to enjoy their success.

A defeat for Wycombe Wanderers meant Wrexham needed a draw against Charlton Athletic in Saturday's late fixture in League One, a game that ended up being a comfortable win for the North Wales side.

They will join fellow promoted team Birmingham City in the second tier next season and appear to have thoroughly enjoyed their moment.

But there was one particularly noteworthy absence as festivities "switched to the function rooms inside the Racecourse Ground, where the players were joined by their families and the owners."

Striker Paul Mullin signed for Wrexham in 2021 and became one of the most prominent figures in 'Welcome to Wrexham', the Disney+ documentary that's played such a big role in the club's progress.

Mullin has contributed too, firing the Red Dragons out of the National League and through League Two in two seasons before a more limited role in English football's third tier this term.

He enjoyed a thrilling double nevertheless, leaving North Wales for Liverpool to soak up the celebrations as his home-town club secured the Premier League title on Sunday afternoon.

"Star striker Paul Mullin opted to celebrate elsewhere with family as a video was shared on social media of him singing Jamie Webster's 'Weekend in Paradise' in a karaoke bar," reports the Daily Star.

Webster, 31, is a fellow scouser. His music has become synonymous with the good times at Anfield among some Liverpool supporters.

Back at the Racecourse, Mullin's absence wasn't much of a dampener: "Plenty of Wrexham Lager was consumed after the brand was bought by Reynolds and McElhenney last autumn."

Wrexham's owners laid bare the series of challenges they've had to overcome from the National League to the top end of League One.

In attempting to compete in the Championship with designs on the Premier League, the biggest test is still to come.

Mullin, having been used less by manager Phil Parkinson this season, could well choose to play his football elsewhere.
