Wrexham have failed to finish in the top six of the Championship, which means they can no longer fight for promotion to the Premier League.

The Welsh side knew what they needed to do in their final game of the season against Middlesbrough to ensure they finished in the playoffs; a win against their opponents would have earned them a place in the top six.

However, they could only manage a 2-2 draw, which was not enough for them to secure their place in the playoffs as Hull City managed to beat Norwich City 2-1 in their clash to climb above Wrexham on the final day and break the hearts of all involved with the Welsh club.

The Red Dragons were looking for their fourth successive promotion, but they will have to be content with their place in the Championship, for at least another season as they wait to achieve that dream of playing in the Premier League.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac have transformed the fortunes of the club since assuming ownership in February 2021.

The Hollywood pair have helped the club climb from the depths of the National League to the Championship in the space of five years, which is an incredible achievement.

There will ultimately be a disappointment that they could not compete for promotion to the Premier League in the post-season when they had their fate in their own hands coming into the final game of the season.

Yet, they will look back fondly on their campaign in the Championship, as not many people expected them to be challenging for the playoffs, and so there will be a desire to build upon this and make their dream of playing in the English top flight a reality.

Now, following their draw with Middlesbrough and their failure to earn promotion to the Premier League, Ryan Reynolds has released a statement on social media.

Reynolds posted on his Instagram story: “I am completely gutted by today’s result but incredibly proud of our season. We’ve come a long way in five years, and this was the best result in our 150+ year history. More to do. But for now we have so much to be proud for, Reds.”

Fans have seen their club earn worldwide recognition and seen their town earn some much-needed revitalisation since the investment in their football team as tourists flock to the town to watch their side.

Yet, most importantly, they have witnessed their results on the pitch improve, and they could not have imagined when they were battling in the National League that within five years they would be disappointed to narrowly miss out on promotion to the Premier League.
