Wrexham have made contact with a Premier League club over completing a surprise deadline day transfer, it has been reported.
The winter transfer window slams shut at 7pm on Monday, though free agents can still be signed and registered beyond that deadline as long as there are available squad registration spaces.
One of the clubs to keep an eye on is Wrexham, who sit in sixth place in the Championship after an upturn in form under manager Phil Parkinson.
Co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac sanctioned a summer transfer spend of around £30 million, including a club-record £7.5 million deal to sign Welsh forward Nathan Broadhead from Ipswich.

The club haven't yet done any business in the current window, with Parkinson stating that it would be a 'bonus' if any new players arrive at the Racecourse Ground by Monday's deadline.
The Wrexham boss stated earlier in January that the club would act 'if the right player becomes available at the right price'.
According to journalist Alan Nixon, Wrexham have identified right wing-back as a position to potentially improve in the final 24 hours of the window - with two players shortlisted.
Nixon claims that the Red Dragons have made contact with Aston Villa over the loan signing of Serbia international Kosta Nedeljkovic.

On the face of it, a move for the 20-year-old would be something of a coup, as Nedeljkovic is currently on loan at Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig on a season-long loan.
The Serbian made 10 Bundesliga appearances on loan at Leipzig during the second half of last season, prompting the German club to reach a deal to extend his stay, but he has been limited to just five appearances this term.
Nedeljkovic has been an unused substitute in each of Leipzig's last five matches, with Nixon adding that Villa would require playing time assurances from Wrexham for them to recall him and send him out to the Championship.
But it remains to be seen whether there is enough time in the window for Wrexham to complete a deal.

Wrexham's first-choice option at right wing-back is Manchester City loanee Issa Kabore, who has recently returned from injury.
They have also shortlisted Portsmouth star Terry Devlin as an option if they cannot sign Nedeljkovic.
The Northern Ireland international, 22, has scored three goals in 21 matches this season and can play at right-back or in midfield.
But Pompey boss John Mousinho stated on Friday that new players would have to arrive at Fratton Park before the club will consider sanctioning any departures.
Last month, Wrexham sanctioned the exit of captain James McClean, who has returned to hometown club Derry City in Northern Ireland.
And Conor Coady - who hadn't played in the Championship since September - has been loaned out to fellow second-tier side Charlton Athletic.
