Newcastle forward Nick Woltemade started for Germany in their World Cup qualifier against Slovakia – and fans have already spotted a major issue with his game.
Woltemade, 23, was initially the subject of transfer interest from Bayern Munich and Chelsea throughout the summer, but signed for Newcastle for a reported club record fee of up to £69 million, penning a six-year contract at St James’ Park.
The 23-year-old left Stuttgart with a glowing reputation and has been compared to several other top strikers, including Manchester City and Norway forward Erling Haaland, due to his height.
And if the label of being a club’s record transfer wasn’t enough, Woltemade and fellow recruit Yoane Wissa are tasked with replacing Alexander Isak’s goals following his transfer to Liverpool.

On Thursday, the 23-year-old played his first match since signing for Newcastle and was in action for Germany during their World Cup qualifier against Slovakia in Bratislava.
However, the striker failed to impress in what was just his second appearance for his country, and fans think they spotted a major problem with his game.
Despite having a supporting cast including Liverpool’s Florian Wirtz and Bayern duo Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry, Woltemade cut a frustrated figure for the most part and struggled to make a positive impact on proceedings.

And fans were quick to have their say on social media.
One said: “Woltemade not had a look in here, been very isolated. Germany is not moving the ball quickly at all. Wirtz is incredibly greedy as well.”
Another added: “This Germany side just doesn’t play to Woltemade’s strength at all. They’re asking him to play on the shoulder instead of dropping deep and linking play; he seems a bit wasted.”
A third claimed: “Certain players in this German team clearly don't want to pass to Woltemade.”

Another, who appeared to be a Newcastle fan, quipped: "Woltemade just let the ball run through his legs and completely sent the defender down the river.
"Not to jump the gun but I reckon we'll win the Champions League this season. I've seen enough."
It also must be said that, given the fact that he is now the ‘main man’ in Eddie Howe’s side that the Magpies will play to Woltemade’s strengths.

New right-winger Anthony Elanga is best known for his crossing ability, having provided 12 assists in 34 Premier League appearances for Nottingham Forest last season.
Elanga and Forest forward Chris Wood formed a formidable partnership – and Howe will be hoping the Swede can do the same with Woltemade.
Woltemade will likely feature in Germany's upcoming match against Northern Ireland before returning to club duty later next week ahead of Newcastle's Premier League clash with Wolves at St James' Park on September 13.
