Man Utd 'are in' for £75m transfer target but it will take huge deadline day bid to make it happen

Manchester United would need to submit an offer worth more than £75 million for Newcastle United to 'even consider' selling Lewis Hall on transfer deadline day, according to reports.

If United were to do business in the final hours of this summer's window, then it would likely be for a left-back to provide competition for Luke Shaw, who is entering the final year of his contract at Old Trafford.

Last month, United reached out to Alejandro Balde's representatives to explore whether a deal would be possible, but the full-back is keen to stay and fight for his place at Barcelona.

Jorge Salinas, the highly-rated full-back from Racing Santander, has also been linked with a move to United in recent weeks alongside Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly, Aston Villa's Ian Maatsen and Brighton's Ferdi Kadioglu.

However, Lewis Hall appears to be the club's top target. In fact, United 'are in' for the player, according to a report from the Daily Mail, which claims the club are 'open' to signing a left-back if the right opportunity emerges.

A deal to sign Hall would certainly be a difficult one to pull off after spending around £150 million on midfielders Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba.

Newcastle, meanwhile, are 'determined' to keep Hall, who has impressed in the opening games of the season. It would take a bid of more than £75 million to make them 'even consider' letting him leave, claims the report.

Matthias Jaissle responded to Lewis Hall transfer talk in TV interview

Towards the end of last month, Peter Schmeichel told Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle that his former club Manchester United are "looking at signing your left-back" as they spoke on live TV.

Jaissle is eager to work with Hall in the coming months. Speaking to Viaplay after their 2-2 draw against Liverpool, the German was asked about Newcastle's transfer plans.

“I think it will be a stressful period for the sporting director [Ross Wilson]," he said. “We have some needs, definitely.”

The 38-year-old was soon asked what area the club are looking to strengthen in the final days of the window but, after pausing for a brief moment, pundit Peter Schmeichel was keen to hear more.

"You can tell us," the former goalkeeper said.

Jaissle then replied: “Because you ask, I was about to tell you but I [will] keep it a secret. If you are bringing players in, maybe there will also be some players out.”

Moments later, Schmeichel said: "We’re [Manchester United] looking at your left-back.” Jaissle, however, was having none of it. “No chance," he said with a grin on his face. "No chance."
