On Tuesday evening (September 1), Liverpool's official social media channels confirmed the signing of highly-rated goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans from KRC Genk, with the 18-year-old penning a long-term contract.
Brughmans will cost the Merseyside giants up to £30 million, making him the most expensive teenage goalkeeper ever after beating the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich to his signature.
Widely regarded as one of the most promising shot-stoppers in Europe, the 6ft 7in Belgian will return to Genk for the remainder of the 2026/27 campaign before returning to Anfield ahead of the 2027/28 campaign.

The decision to sign the teenager and loan him straight out has implications for Giorgi Mamardashvili's future - both in the short and long term.
Nottingham Forest made an enquiry for Mamardashvili over the weekend, but their interest hasn't advanced since, with the 25-year-old set to stay at the club as second choice to Alisson Becker.
Brughmans' joining could have threatened his place, but with the youngster leaving on loan, it appears the club have accepted that he will remain an option for Iraola.
Mamardashvili, who joined the six-time European champions from Valencia in 2025, sees his contract expire in 2031 and may not play a part in their long-term plans.
That could depend on how Brughmans does once he returns next summer, because with Alisson's current deal expiring next year, the Belgian could become their first choice.
Liverpool may also sign a more senior keeper and have Brughmans operating as an understudy. If they do, that will almost certainly mean waving goodbye to Mamardashvili, who has made 20 appearances for the Reds in all competitions.
