Man Utd and Liverpool handed surprise Deadline Day boost with club now 'open to offers' for key target

Manchester United and Liverpool have both been placed on red alert over the signing of a new midfielder on deadline day, it has been reported.

United have already significantly strengthened in midfield this summer in terms of numbers, with Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans joining for a combined fee in excess of £150million.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have elected thus far not to replace Curtis Jones, who has left to join Inter Milan for around £30million.

That has led new head coach Andoni Iraola to block any departures - loan or permanent - for young midfielders James McConnell and Trey Nyoni, who were both named on the bench for Liverpool's 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Club 'open to offers' for Man Utd and Liverpool target

Now, a new opportunity to sign an additional player may open up in the closing hours of the transfer window.

That's according to The Athletic, who report that Real Madrid are now 'open to offers' for France international midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.

Camavinga has made over 200 appearances across the five seasons he has been at Real, but that hasn't stopped speculation over his future in recent transfer windows.

He didn't start either of Real's opening two La Liga fixtures, but did play 90 minutes during Saturday's 4-0 win over Malaga.

Real manager Jose Mourinho admitted last week that, while his squad was 'closed' in terms of incomings, he did not deny that some players could leave the club should the right opportunity arise.

And The Athletic claim that Real 'have not entirely ruled out a last-minute exit' for Camavinga, with the club 'conscious that several teams in the Premier League ... have positions to fill'.

Spanish journalist Francisco Jose Delgado, speaking on radio station Cadena SER, claimed last week that United were preparing a bid worth €50 million (around £43m) to sign Camavinga before the transfer deadline.

Meanwhile, The Telegraph's Dominic King noted that Liverpool had decided on a clear stance over not signing a new midfielder in the current window after their opening weekend 2-2 draw with Newcastle.

However, issues in midfield persisted in the 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest and it remains to be seen whether the Reds perform a late U-turn despite rejecting a bid from Forest for 19-year-old Nyoni on Monday evening.

Liverpool are said to deem Nyoni as a 'valuable' member of their squad and have no plans to sell him to another club.
