Liverpool open talks for 6ft 7in wonderkid to replace Mamardashvili as Bayern Munich circle

Liverpool may be busy right up to the transfer deadline, attempting to acquire players to strengthen their squad in several areas.

It is clear to see that the club are aiming to strengthen their attack with the impending acquisition of Bradley Barcola and the rumoured approaches for Ismaila Sarr.

Yet, fans and pundits believe there is a need to sign a defensive midfielder and possibly strengthen at fullback due to the worrying performances from both Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong in the opening two fixtures of the campaign.

Yet, one position there may be some surprise that the Reds are targeting is goalkeeper, as the club are reportedly going after a replacement for Giorgi Mamardashvili.

The Georgian keeper has failed to convince at Anfield since joining last season as a replacement for Caoimhin Kelleher, in a deputising role for Allison.

Mamardashvili made 20 appearances in the last campaign due to the injuries suffered by the Brazilian, but due to his performances, there are doubts that he is the long-term solution between the sticks.

Now, it has been reported by journalist Matteo Moretto that Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest want the 25-year-old.

This has led Liverpool to look for a replacement for the Georgian, with Lucca Brughmans being viewed as the perfect replacement, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

However, the Reds do face competition for the 18-year-old, as German giants Bayern Munich are also aiming to do a deal to sign the starlet from Genk.

Andoni Iraola will be well aware of how difficult a position this is to fill for Liverpool, as they need to sign a keeper who is happy to deputise for Allison, but due to the injury record of the Brazilian, he needs to be top quality to start in goal for the Reds.

This has led them to the teenage sensation who has impressed in his 15 senior appearances for Genk, as he kept six clean sheets, while he has also attained 25 caps for Belgium at youth level.

Brughmans has exciting potential, coming from the same academy that produced Thibaut Courtois and Mike Penders, explaining why the likes of Liverpool and Bayern Munich are interested in his signature.

Yet, it is still a risk to trust a relatively inexperienced keeper with the deputising role to Allison as Liverpool aim to challenge for silverware this campaign.

If this gamble pays off and Liverpool do sign a top-quality keeper that can handle the pressure, they will have discovered their long-term solution to Allison while cashing in on Mamardashvili, who still has doubts around his capability of filling this role.
