Liverpool 'in talks' for Bayern Munich target to replace surprise player linked with move to Premier League rivals

Liverpool have made contact about a deal for a highly-rated future star amid shock reports linking a star player with a move away from Anfield.

The 11pm transfer deadline on Tuesday (September 1) is rapidly approaching, leaving Premier League clubs with just days to organise last-minute deals for the remainder of 2026.

Several clubs across England's top-flight are believed to be busy negotiating transfers, with Liverpool reportedly one of the busiest with deals for both incomings and departures being finalised.

After weeks of rumours, the Reds have finally completed a deal for their top target Bradley Barcola, who is set to join from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth up to £123million, with another winger believed to be the next main target.

But, before they can commit their full focus on signing a new forward, it appears Liverpool may have to consider reinforcements at the back, as reports have linked second goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili with a shock exit.

Mamardashvili arrived at Anfield last summer, having signed a deal the year before, and made 20 appearances in 2025/26, filling in for Alisson as he struggled with injuries.

Since Allison's return, the Georgian international has struggled for regular minutes at Liverpool, prompting a late move in the transfer market from Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest, who have reportedly made an enquiry over the goalkeeper's availability.

Earlier in the summer various reports suggested that Liverpool were open to letting Mamardashvili leave the club on loan this season, with Juventus among a number of Italian clubs said to be considered.

However, it appears Forest would rather bring the 25-year-old in on a permanent deal, with the midlands club viewing him as an upgrade on Matz Sels, who conceded two to Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.

That being said, a move for Mamardashvili, particularly so late in the window, will not be easy, or cheap, for Forest, with Liverpool only willing to listen to significant offers if they are to consider letting him go before Tuesday's deadline.

Liverpool identify 6’7” star keeper as Mamardashvili replacement

Despite this, a report from journalist Sacha Tavolieri has claimed that Liverpool are already making moves to prepare for Mamardashvili's potential departure.

The Reds have identified 18-year-old Genk goalkeeper Luccha Brughmans as a potential new signing, with club officials said to be are “convinced by the future potential” of the youngster.

Standing at a massive 6’7″, Brughmans has made just 15 appearances for current club Genk, keeping six clean sheets in that time, but has attracted interest from across Europe, including from German giants Bayern Munich.

An update from Fabrizio Romano revealed that Liverpool have already made official club to club contact with Genk about securing the future star's signature, with a deal seen as being 'on' ahead of the deadline.

Romano adds that Liverpool are currently deciding if they will sign Brughmans for right now, something that would likely be the case Mamardashvili joins Forest, or if he could sign a deal that would see him join in 2027, much like Mamardashvili's contract with the club, having spent his first season as Red on loan with former club Valencia.
